Anybody Got a Hookup for the Garmin Nuvi 660?

Seriously C... when did you ever get lost on a run?

 

It may be kind of expensive, but the Street Pilot 7500 is amazing. Used it on several cross country drives recently and it works like a charm. Gigantic screen, but pretty perfect.

 

Not sure why the difference in price. I have been doing some research on them recently. I plan to purchase a 750 soon. I have no need for blue tooth or European coverage currently.

I thought I'd post a follow up on the Garmin Nuvi 660:

I'm impressed.

Crystal clear voice.
Easy mounting
it can be carried around & used
Good verbal turn queues...the map isn't necessary but is very nice.
excellent FM transmission & reception(more on this)
Hands-Free bluetooth elimates the need for special cell blue-tooth head sets
Good 3D maps & tracking
responsive "Recalculates" on route changes
99.7% of even the new roads are on the box.
Easy memory upgrade for MP3s & Pics & stuff
Easy file transfers & housekeeping via direct USB connects
Easy-to-read side streets labeled.
Unit automagically powers up & down when the car is turned on & off (if connected via the cigarette lighter)
Web sites can contain downloads to the Garmin. So besides posting a Mapquest link, you can post a Garmin download for directions
(Do you hear that GDC, WWoC, FoCNJ, FoLI, et al????)
Easy Business searching per category (to elimate massive lists to scroll)

Down sides
Satellite aquiring can take a few minutes
Start-up "waiver" screen is annoying (but will go away by itself if left alone)
There are no free FM channels in our area to keep the unit fixated on so fm stations must be switched frequently
a lot of businesses are missing or not easily located. Searches can take 5 minutes. Try & Find Algar or FoCNJ...I had to find Algar via a manual scroll of the map and FoCNJ isn't listed so I had to use the storage place in front of them. Arena motors isn't listed.
The batteries can be sucked dry my using MP3 player or GPS or Screen backlighting on full power.
Some of the configurations aren't intuitive. Just try & select the Red Ferrari (ie Red sports car).....
The display should be configurable...I'd like to see the map & Avg MPH & miles traveled rather than est. arrival time.

Quirks -
Some of the name pronounciation is funny. Try Berdan Ave Wayne, Piaget Ave Clifton.
try & search for Route 1 in NJ. Is it Rt 1, Route 1, Route one.....I dunno yet. Same with I-80 & Rt 23.
Some streets are in the system as their County Routes, Some by their common names (Rt 20 vs McLean Blvd)
some of the display "routes" appear funny. The unit had me on Newbridge road going to Teaneck yet the visible route showed going West on Rt 4.


Anyway, Buy one. They're great!

 

Found another down-side of the Garmin. With the steep rake on the 308 windshield, the sun would quickly heat the suction cup (even with a spotless windshield & cup) and the darn thing would pop off the windshield. Cracking the screen scares me as it tumbles to the floor. So I bought a Garmen "Friction Mount" and plopped it on the 308 dash. With general driving, no problems! I'll let you know about some spirited runs & quick stops. But so far, it's great! One can be had by doing either a Froogle or Ebay store search for Garmin's part # and $22 gets you the mount.

As I mentioned earlier, finding a clear FM station is a bear. But I finally found 89.6 (used but not strong) and I found if I don't put the 308's antenna up, it works like a champ.
