That is sad............ someone would pay alot more for that 355, than say mine.... thats in way better real condition, well maintained with honest miles....

Has anyone run a carfax on the vehicle? Just wondering what the carfax report says about the miles.

 

It just shows to buy on 'condition' of engine, interior, chassis and body. IMO that is a real indicator of care bestowed on a car. That OP car is listed with similar 'miles' as robbies car and it is nowhere near the condition of robbies car. Heck even mine is exponentially better than that ebay one......

As long as people are willing to pay a premium for odometer numbers, we will continue to see 'ragged old lumps of crap' with umpteen thousand miles on a tampered odometer.

 

I agree caution is in order, but Autocheck shows, in part, the following on this 355 Spider:

9/1999 - 2100 mi
12/2002 - 3500
5/2003 - 4700
7/2003 - 5700
2/2005 - 8600
2/2006 - 9100
9/2007 - 14,500

I suppose it's possible that the ad was first placed in earlier 2007 when it showed 13k mi. Of course, it's always possible to tamper with odo at any time, so any of these reads could be false without sufficient backup documentation.

Robbie - can you provide more details of the source of the 25k mileage report? Is it possible that number is incorrect?

I emailed the seller who replied with,

"There is no odo roll back. This was bought from san diego ferrari dealership in la jolla."

Is this guy totally full of crap? I'm sure the truth isn't hard to uncover.

 

Everyone calm down. The mileage on CarFax checks out (better than most cars). There is a small discrepancy but it's only 700 to 900 miles. If you're going to do a Ferris Buehler why only go back such low miles?

Have you considered decaf?

 

Could have been a fake ad with the same vin? Lots of shady stuff on ebay. I have starting taking screen shots of auctions that are interesting to me now or in the future.

fyi, ebay keeps a minimum time available for the database. This because people were using the info to publish value guides.

We could have the wrong car here. I told the seller how the registry has the car listed for sale by private owner in June 2007 and he said that it can't be because he has owned the car since August of 2006.

 

........ I guess ebay is not the best place for reliable data then...

...makes sense....

Though judging from the pictures the interior still looks terrible considering the mileage....IMO..... .
