Does anyone know what kind of torx is used on the mass air flow sensor? I need to take the mass air flow sensor out to clean them (with special MAF cleaner) None of my torx will fit, I know the torx on the MAF sensor of the Ferrari is a tamper proof kind with the post in the middle, but I don't think these are standard torx, or is there a special torx tool to remove these bolts?

After checking the oil level (car warmed, idle) I found out that dealer overfilled the oil from last oil change. When I checked the oil the oil level was was high up on the dip stick I am guessing that my MAF is probably oily due to that.

    TIA

    Ray,

Thanks for the reminder of the good old mcmaster. LOL!

I only sign off about 20k/month worth of POs for Mcmaster for our plant, never crossed my mind to buy my own tools and parts from there.

Still no luck! I bought every single tamper proof torx there is, nothing fits!!! I can't believe no one ever tried to remove the MAF from a 9 year old car! Any tips on what tool I need to remove this?

Also when you guys remove the intake tubes what do you replace the metal strap with? Or you reuse (recramp) the old strap?

Update, still no luck. I am convinced that the torx on the MAF is not a standard tamperproof torx, I have tried everything under the sun and none of them fit.

Can anyone shine some light on this and point me to the right direction where I obtain this tool?

    Thanks

Are they Tamper Proof Torx-Plus? I bought a set from Snap-On, they have a more rounded 5-point shape vs 6-point sharper shape of standard torx. Hope that helps some.

    Update:

As an individual you can't purchase the special tamper proof torx-plus tool needed to remove the MAF on the Ferrari. Even Snapon have updated their website for this tool as "Not avaliable".

Finally found out why I have not had any luck finding the special tamper proof torx screw used on the Ferrari MAF.

My guess, don't know for sure, is that Maryland Metrics would sell you the bit with an explanation. http://www.marylandmetrics.com/prod/wiha/wihapageindex.htm

    It's a now common screw.

Don't know the exact size, sorry.

I overfilled my 360 and the oil blew back on the MAF. I took the whole sleeve off and cleaned it from the inside with compressed air and an either based cleaner. Reset the check engine light with my OBD11 reader and everything has been great for months.

I did find the torx tool that I needed to take off the MAF, it is a 5 point tamper proof torx. Found a set of SK from Ebay.

Since then I have cleaned the MAF, but did not solve my hot starting issue.

    Robin: Need you help

Would you happen to have this MAF removal tool still? Could you recall the manufacturer or any markings on it that I can use to search and buy one somewhere?

    Thanks

The first thing you need to know is that it is NOT a Torx!!

I thought the same thing and none of mine from my Griot's set would work. I assumed the tamper-resistant feature was somehow different.

They are pentalobe! You can find a pentalobe set on Amazon, etc.

Somewhere on F-chat this is explained. Torx on left, pentalobe on right.

The tools are easily available on Amazon. You will need both 6 pointed and 5 pointed torx sets for various parts of the car.

    Wrong. They are all Torx..

    Torx T-bits = 6-point star
Torx TR-bits = 6-point star, "Security version", with center pin
Torx TS-bits = 5-point star, "Security version", with center pin
