High school might as well be over for me now- at 18:00:08EST I found out I was accepted to the Engineering department of the University of Illinois (at Urbana-Champaign) as an intended Electrical Engineering major! I'm so very excited, it was my #1 choice! There is a 99% chance I will go there now. Wish me luck, I might try to double major in either Russian or German too... yikes, hehe :).

    I'm soooo excited!

I'll try to specialise in Italian Electronics- all I have to do to complete the major is drink a LOT and drop several classes, right?

I hear there are open spots for these majors at Magnetti Marelli :p

Congrats - glad you get to go where you want, that's a big psychological advantage.

As far as foreign languages are concerned, here are my choices:

    1) Chinese
    2) Russian
    (gap)
    3) I'd like to say Portugese, but not with over 200 (?) dialects to choose from.

If you are set on doing Russian, go for it, and don't change. MUCH better to do what YOU want to do than what someone else wants you to do, you can save that part for later in life, when you are married.

No way. Spanish first. Chinese might be good. Russian will be worthless.

    Congrats!

    Here's your unsolicited tip:

Do REALLY well your first year.

It's the easiest and it will buffer any ease up later.

Doing poorly your first year makes 3 tough years later.

Everytime I hear the name "Urbana, Illinois", I think of HAL.

    Congrats!

HAL: I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.
Dave Bowman: Yes, I'd like to hear it, HAL. Sing it for me.
    HAL: It's called "Daisy."
    [sings while slowing down]
HAL: Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

I have been studying Russian for about 1.5 years- I know it's an absolutely useless language to learn :)p) but I am just so intrigued by Russian culture that I absolutely must study it. I've also been taking German for a while, too, and I love that language and culture as well, so that's another must. I also took French for about 9 years, and spoke it really well, but I had to drop the class in high school and have fallen out of it since. I might get back in if I feel like it, though.
Actually, I've taken so many classes in high school that I will be entering UI as a sophomore (excluding the ENG100 intro class). However, I'll probably still graduate in four years anyway because I will be taking so many language classes!
