I just had a look on several threads and noticed that all this talk about exhaust and power means nothing if you can't put it down onto the ground. I have P Zero System tires and it is time to re-tyre. I am very happy with them both in the pouring rain and on dry asphalt. On some of the tire chat sites they talk about them being noisy. What are you guys driving out there. Any recommendations as to which work best on a spider? Any word on the regular P Zero tires? Thanks in advance.

I personally never liked the p-zeros on any of my cars. Much prefer the Michelin PS2's (ran them on 911tt,viper,and currently on 360). They seem to grip better with better predictability.

Are you referring to the PZero Corsa System tires? If so, these are Extreme Performance Summer rated tires and absolutely useless in wet weather.

The following alert is directly from Pirelli.

Caution: The P Zero Corsa System tires are not recommended for high-speed driving on extremely wet roads with standing water where there is the risk of hydroplaning. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.

I live in Los Angeles, land of no seasons so the PZero Corsa System tires work perfect for me.

    Good thing your considering options.

The Pirelli web site states "PZero Direzionale (Directional)-A front position tire that solves the problem of wet surface roadholding and aquaplaning for high performance cars fitted with wide section width front tires.

    Configuration Options:

    Directional Front-Asymmetrical Rear
For high speed use in variable conditions of wet and dry. This configuration is particularly suited to mid- or rear-engine cars, front engine or rear drive axle cars with up-rated wide section wheels and tires."

It did do very well in the rain at about 120mph to the extent that I turned off my wipers because the rain beaded up the windsheild faster than the wiper could remove the drops. Are the PS2 better in the rain that the P Zero?

If you are going 120mph in the rain, IMHO you should slow down :) No street tire will prevent you from hydroplaning at that speed. I really hope you aren't doing 120mph in the rain on public roads... I have my SCCA race license and it still scares me to go that fast on the track with intermediates on! Doesn't take much water to spin you out of control, especially during a turn.

I did find the PS2's much better in the wet, though. This was during normal driving speeds.

Try this in the wet with race mode on with summer tyres. Change from 5 to 3rd and put your foot down and watch your back end spin out and lose control. Been there done that.

The PS2 is 10 mm narrower in actual tread width than the original Potenza on my 360. The tires look clearly narrower.

What other tires are good handling tires that also work well in the rain? Has anyone just used the regular p Zero tires? I have read through the promo description and it also should be good in rain.

BTW, at 120 the road was very well cambered and dead straight with no traffic at 3am. Not much potential for ponding water.

I personally would use PS2 over Pirelli anyday. Check out Tirerack.com, there are some good user reviews and tests. At the end of the day, I found the PS2's to be very predictable.

VM3 - I agree, tires are often not the same physical width even if they are both rated 275's. However, I've used some tires that were physically skinnier but had MUCH more grip. Tirerack has the physical measurements of the treadwidth of each brand. The potenza's are good, better than Pirelli's in my book. I still prefer the PS2's, though, if given a choice and prices were the same.

A tire I think is almost as good as the PS2 is the Kumho MX tire. That tire was half the price of my PS2's when I used them on my Viper and Supra. I don't think they make 360 sizes.

Of course, my favorite tire to run on the street is the Kumho victoracers/v700's. As close to a race slick as possible while still having rain grooves (WARNING-rain grooves will only help you limp home, not good for daily driving in rain). They have terrible tread wear, but are probably twice as sticky. I ran them on my 1000hp Viper. Make sure to have 3M protection on the wheels and sides, you will kick up a ton of gravel.

Just be careful. You won't be able to come to a quick stop at those speeds in the wet :p

I think my PS2s are very predictable in the wet weather. They're really good in every season!
