The late Stephano Casiraghi (husband of Princess Caroline) loved fast cars and boats. Here he is in Monte Carlo driving his brand new F40 with "EE.730.AK" registration a short time before his death...

Thanks Joe! Very artistic that one. Maybe from Autoweek magazine? Have not seen that PROVA plate before. No yellow number in the side window either.

To my knowledge, there were no US F40s produced with sliding windows. Only 106 cars were specified with these windows and I
don´t think any were for the US. Maybe not allowed by US legislation, like the tanks?

Indeed you are correct no USA cars were produced with them for type-approval reasons, but I was wondering if anyone has since fitted them.

BTW I noticed on another thread you commented on your old F40 and the treatment of the underside of the front hood. I will tell you this: USA cars came with the undersides of the front hood finished just one way, and the assertion that they were sometimes finished like your old Euro car with a replacement hood is just plain wrong - if it is an original hood thats indeed still fitted.

In answer to the persistent PMs... my notes for the 211 roadgoing cars are as follows:

    1990 - 93 cars built.
    1991 - 58 cars built.
    1992 - 60 cars built.

Obviously one could argue a car that was started in December and finished in January should be ascribed to one year or another, but the above is pretty much where the official production ended up... Hope this is helpful.

Now when you say "built", do you mean cars simply finished Jan-Dec or the model year?

The chassis ID plate shows the build completion date of the car, if thats what you are asking. The figures I have given are based on completion dates.

Joe a never ending supply of useful information about the F40 here.
One USA F40 had an interesting delivery history. The car was ordered as USA spec from a European Ferrari dealer. That dealer personally came to America and discussed the sale with the American dealer in whose state the customer actually lived. Just so everyone was happy about the situation. Every build slot for the F40 and the USA version especially; was greatly coveted back then. The American dealer indicated he had no problem with arrangement. The F40 owner got to drive his new Ferrari in Europe and then bring it to America!

Such is the case with my F40.... The plate is stamped: October 1990, & it is titled as a 1990.
Jas' car is December 1991 & considered a 1992 year model. Two months and I could of had a 91 :(

Look at it this way, you will now be emmissions exempt in 49 states a year earlier. :D

Both the Canadian destination 288 GTO and F40 sat in the dealer showroom wearing their 'EE' plates. Neither one could be registered for street use back then. 15 plus years later they are finally legal...thus lots of interest in 'old cars' now.

There used to be a market value bias towards 1992 cars for some reason perpetuated by the slightly misinformed "later is better" crowd.

    Not any more...
