I stopped by a local dealer today and had a look at several GSR models that had just got in...the MR models are not due in until May. I really liked the car and know I will like the MR even more with it's TC-SST 6 speed, upgraded interior, wheels, brakes and exterior trim. I will wait to order mine early summer just before my current M5 lease expires.

I would seriously consider the new Lancer Ralliart since it's no longer a badge/wheel package, but rather a less expensive WRX competitor. Should be an interesting market, especially if Toyota sticks to their plans of offering a 2dr coupe with the STI drive train.

FYI, the MR is a little more than just a badge/wheel package. It also has the TC-SST 6 speed transmission, two piece Brembo brake rotors, leather and suede Recaro seats and door panels as well as the forged BBS wheels which are lighter than the cast wheels on the GSR...I love the SMG in my current M5 and definitely want the TC-SST tranny in the MR...

I know the MR is in a different league, but entry to that league is about $40k if I'm not mistaken. As the new RalliArt is a WRX competitor, its expected to be around the $25k mark.

The EVO GSR is ~$33k to $35k and the MR ~ $35k to $38k depending on options such as Nav, Sirius radio, BlueTooth, ect...The Ralliart will have less that 250hp as compared to the 295hp of the EVO...

Yup 0 ms because it has 2 diff't clutches to shift. Essentially they are just copying Audi's DSG, except the Germans still haven't figured out, how to apply the DSG tech to their higher end cars, such as the S8, S6, Q7, and R8. The R8 gets the Gallardo's "SMG" gearbox, which has just one clutch, and can't shift as fast as DSG.

BMW is finally getting its own version of the DSG, which is going into the new M3.

Merc is getting a version of the SMG gearbox, with just one clutch.

Essentially, SMG is one clutch, like Ferrari, Lambo, Audi R8, Nissan GTR, Mercedes, BMW M5

whereas DSG has two clutchs, which aid in a much faster shift, and they are used by: VW, Audi, Mitsu, BMW M3

If Ferrari made a DSG tranny, it would cost over $40,000, and imagine how much the pumps for it might cost? Ferrari's current system costs $1,000s for service.

I believe the less hp is the result of a smaller turbo. I'd upgrade the turbo and exhaust and use much less than $10k to add a few extras that I'd like. This is just me though. If I was in the market for a $40k-ish car, I'd probably grab the BMW 335xi coupe.

I did consider a 2006 e46 M3 with the ZCP competition package...but, after an e34 M5, e36 M3, 740iL, e39 M5 and my current e60 M5 over the last 18 years I am just BMWed out...I have always been a fan of WRC racing and think the new EVO X looks great...

Don't forget the chassis is different between the Ralliart and the Evo. While the Evo is a fairly quick straight line car, the real magic is in cornering. So I would go for that beautifully stiff chassis setup, worth the money. :)

Yes...you can get most of what comes standard on the MR as an option on the GSR...but why would you want the GSR 5 speed stick when you can have the TC-SST 6 speed of the MR?

I believe the Mercedes S63 has a dual clutch. Porsche has one in the works as does BMW. Both soon to be released. It will revolutionize the industry.

Great technology without a doubt. Consistant perfection in shifting..

    Very cool.

I believe the S63 has a 7 speed automatic torque convertor transmission with paddle shifters...

Sure the TC-SST is faster at shifting but I think a real manual is more fun. I've been learning to drive stick and its alot of fun. Makes driving around alot differant vs an auto. Granted I dont have any experiance with these dual clutch setups but from what I know, manual is alot more fun.

saw a new Evo X tonight and it looks much better in person than in all the photos ..

An interesting comparision in this months automobile magazine btwn the Evo x, Subaru STI and the four door AWD 335ix.

335ix was chosen as it was the fastest of the three.

A surprising result ..as I would have thought the Evo X was the fastest vehicle.

This included the 5 speed manual in the evo X and not the SST transmission version.

Just a heads up if your deciding what to buy.

Yes, DSG or twin clutch system is indeed faster than F1 or Ferrari's system, but there are also downfalls to having two clutches, such as being relatively expensive to manufacture, and since it is computer controlled if you shift to a gear that the computer did not anticipate the shift time can be lengthy. Also due to torque handling restraints, it limits engine mods.

FINALLY the new Lancer is coming boosted from the factory =D The previous Lancers have been such a dissapointment and sad competitor against the WRX but now I'm sure Mitsu's Lancer sales will surpass Subaru's WRX sales. I personally would choose the new Lancer over the WRX, and for good reasons too. Just like how stock against stock, the EVO(9) is faster and outhandles the STI, the new Lancer is faster and still out handles the WRX. Just sad how the Lancer will be missing the EVO's AYC (Active Yaw Control), which is an electronically controlled differential that uses two clutches to transfer torque to the wheels, and it does this based off of, g forces, braking, throttle position and so forth. Basically the main purpose of AYC is to increase cornering speeds!
