Want to go 3x8 racing, but in what car?

    I have been interested in going classic racing/club racing in a Ferrari. I have two cars in mind, the 308/328 or the GT4? I have two 308 GTS, but I dont want to use GTS chassi, and the cars are too nice for racing.

    The class I want to go is sort of "classic italian", it is not too serious and not too expensive. (scandinavian series)

    Anyone have advice or experience to share?

    Find a GTB or GT4 "fixer-upper" and convert it to a race car. If you intend to do vintage/classic racing, you will probably have to install a roll bar/cage, and will end up stripping out most of the "creature comforts" like virtually all of interior, AC, radio, etc. and installing true racing seats, extra gauges, fire suppression, etc.

    First, look at the organizations you might run with and study their rules, particularly regarding the age of vehicles, racing history if required, and most importantly their safety requirements, like cages, roll bars, fire extinguishers/automatic suppression, wheels, tires, suspension, engine modifications, originality issues, etc. What those organizations require will dictate what you can or will have to do to a car to prep it for racing. And that will influence what kind of car you will be looking for.

    BTW, the only reason I excluded a GTS is because of potential issues with having the top of your helmet below a roll bar/cage. With open top cars, most groups require the top of the helmet to be at least 2" below the line between the top of the windshield frame and the top of the roll bar behind the driver. Some clubs use a broomstick placed across to check clearance. If helmet height is not an issue for you, you could potentially use a GTS, but keep that in mind.

    GT4!!!................................or I supose a GTB would be ok. But the GT4 is a better choise!

    I've driven both in an environment where I can explore the handling a little, and I think the GT4 is much easier to control [while sliding] than the GTB. I think the longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs help. :)

    This one look nice, it's fiberglass, and already has some work done. Price seems fair for a partially molested car.

    Look for a fixer upper to do this.

    I have seen a GTB converted to a racing car in Monterey, California. From far away, the car looked cool. but as I looked inside, the interior was all torn out. No carpets, sound dampening, no dash, etc, just sheet metal. The roll cage was welded on the chassis. Seat belts were secured directly to the roll cage. There was a huge fire extinguisher in accessible by the driver and co-pilot. The fenders were cut out to allow larger size tires.

    I could not stop thinking about what a waste of an otherwise beatiful classic car.

    That's kind of one of the thing these cars were built for. Any 308 that has made it's way to the racing scene is no waste IMHO.

    The GT4 is widely reckoned to be better in circuit racing.

    The GT4 raced at Le Mans, the GTB was entered in rallies.
