Which out of production car(s) would you most want Ferrari to bring back?

If I walked into a Ferrari dealership today, and saw a brand spanking new 2009 Lusso on the showroom floor, with modern amenities, I'd reach for the checkbook in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, I'd probably buy it if it was only a 2008 model.

 

I'd have a 328 - made exactly as they were the first time round. Definitely none of this modern technological nonsense ruining the driver-car-road relationship and no stupid power-hikes making it unrealistic for road use.

 

F40 or 288 GTO.

 

For the life of me I can't fathom why nobody can produce a modern equivalent of the BMW 2002tii, least of all BMW, so that'd be my choice.

There are few that people would not want back, and whatever they did bring back there would be a healthy market for. My personal list would have to be the 550, mainly because to ressurect some of the greats like the 288/F40/250, well that would not be quite as good as the over-romanticised past. The 250GTO was not as great as people have made it out to be, since then there have been cars with a better history, and it is not that the car was great, rather the competition was weak, like being the smartest kid in a class of morons. Pretty sure old man Ford showed up and proved that pretty quickly.

 

That photo's rather misleading, the 355's merely a hand wider and 2 fingers taller, than the 328.

Hardly the 360/430's 'order of magnitude' bigger.

I would say the Pinin, the 4-door car from the 1980 Turin auto show that never saw production in the first place.

Probably the right answer. Also, there's a kind of pride in having a Ferrari from a bygone era, so much as I love the 328s, Boxers, etc., I don't know that I'd feel better about having them resurrected in the age of robots/computers.

I also agree with the posts about reducing the size/weight of these cars. The drama in the '70s/'80s Ferraris and Lambos was in part because of their proportions.

But I'd rather see Pininfarina get its groove back then produce a Dino/308/328 retread.

It's funny how many people have converted real 328s to EFI or carbs. The original CIS was for emissions controls, not performance. (That big pie pan in the intake doesn't help "revability" at all.) They're very reliable, but when they do go wrong, nobody can fix them. So maybe a 328 with stainless brake lines and OBDIII?

If we adjust for automotive* inflation, an original 246GTS Dino would run about 110K today?
(*Using the urban consumer price index, a ('73) 246GT would run ((212.5/44.2)*7500=) about 36K)

But the Italian I'd like to see come back *unmolested* would be the Alfa 75/GTV-6. That new front-drive GTV6 is a joke. But recreate the RWD / diDion tipo 75 with a V6 and that would be worth importing.

 

308 with a V12, Intercool TwinTurbo, 6 speed, 19" wheels, Carbon Ceramic discs with 4 pistons caliper, Xenon projector type headlights, better AC systems,
better faster windows, ATC, plus more

 

Simple, 275 GTB long or short nose.

 

Don't forget an update of the window lifts.

I second that, but for a different reason, I really like the appearance of the 4 headlight cars, and a new one would be awesome. Maybe if they built some of the other cars "new" (like the TR or the GTO), we'd have less replica/tribute cars built.

Of course, if Ferrari built a "cheap" small V-6 or V-8, like the 246 or 308, I'd think they'd sell the heck out of them.
