If I purchase a car from someone who has put some miles on a clutch, does it wear into a pattern for there type of driving? So when I get it I drive the clutch a little different causing small shudder spots because I am releasing the clutch differently? Or do they all wear the same? I have many cars with clutches, and they all seem to be different.

Can I drive the old pattern out of the clutch? If I keep using it with my pattern?

I was once told this; story being that it was not the clutch itself - but rather the flywheel pressure plate. Once it had been slipped bad enough, little burnished spots would develop which replicate themselves in a kind of shudder again and again. No amount of good driving after that point could make up for the previous bad driving that caused the problem.

OK, now go ahead and tell me that I believe in bigfoot monsters in the northwest woods.

If this is the case the only thing you can do to help reduce the shudder is,

after you completely release the clutch pedal ease on the accelerator I mean

real gentle, let the pressure plate sync with the engine speed as early as possible.

1+ I believe your looking at Pressure plate or Flywheel needing to be resurfaced/replaced. Most of the time it's cuased by a bad or no resurface job when the clutch was replaced. I haven't heard of one that started to shudder on it's own from age or wear.
