Jon, Your page 11 has a picture that shows the square piece on the front edge of the door in line with the wire grommet. Maybe pushed light switches? Other parts I don't recognize. Perhaps part of cable guides near window motors. You seem to have taken motors out first. Maybe didn't shoot everything. Are screws threaded into angles? Are threads in plate same as screw threads? Angles are plated, do they show any marks or were they replated with everything else? I'll look at my old pics. John
Almost got the left door finished today. The widow actually goes uo and down. Lots of adjusting to get just right. Off to Deer Valley tonight and back to the doors Monday. Getting closer. Can't wait till the CORRECT seats get back and into the car... THis has to be the best thread ever and I still can't wait for the DVD
Reminds me when I once attempted to do a plug cut test with my GTS (08106). Picked a rarely travelled back road. Took it up to 6800 in 3rd and shut off the motor. Only problem was a slight kink in the road forced me to tweek the wheel a little - and you guessed it - the steering lock engaged ! To make matters worse a car pulled out ahead. So there I was frantically trying to steer (couldn't) and fumbling the ignition (lots of cussing) to unlock it, all the while doing about 50 miles an hour. Then the key broke. Sheared off just a bit sticking out. Fortunately there was just enough camber in the road to avoid the omcoming car and gradually coming to a stop between 2 rock cuts at the side of the road. It actually looked like I parked it on purpose. I then walked a few miles to the nearest farm (pre cell phone ) phoned home and spare key plus needle nose pliers were soon on the way. NOTE TO SELF: NEVER do a plug cut without first dis engaging the steering lock.
What are the correct seats? I'm hoping some tan with black inserts are going in! I thought the black/grey looked a little odd.
The black and grey seat is from my GT. My other seats have the new leather sewn on, just waiting for the seat inserts from Italy. Tan w/ black inserts for the seats. Very excited to put them in!
Awesome!!! I missed that in this monster thread and couldn't figure out why you had mis-matched seats. Tan w/ black inserts is what I wanted to hear!
I can't see from your photos but I do hope that you have installed the plastic sheet that goes behind the door trim. This is a critical part to any car door and protects the trim from water damage. People forget and think that the window seals are going to stop water getting inside the door, but they are not actually designed for that (and also why it is critical that we periodically check the door drainage hours are clear) and water will run down inside your door. This plastic sheet must be sealed to the door frame well, usually with some sort of black putty stuff. If you have done this already great, if not please remove the door trim and add . This is the most common mistake lazy panel beaters make and results in expensive retrim (of doors atleast) a few years later. Best Pete
Good advise Pete. The fiberboard backing of the door trim warps if wet. Regular 2" wide clear packing tape works fine to hold plastic to door. Just cut clear plastic 1/2" inside of trim panel edges and tape on. John
Hi Jon Getting near to finishing my car will post more pics on my thread later tonight I,m stuck a bit on the heater route, I,ve got the heater hose coming along the sill and have it coming out by the front wheel arch (NS) I know it goes to the the heater valve not quite sure of the route it follows to get there hope you can help. Also if you can perhaps the route of the other heater hoses. Kind Regards Stephen
Finally got the two doors finished. What a job to get everything working correctly. The power windows the locks the door pulls, not room for much error there. There was a short in the right front turn signal. I had got used fixtures as I was changing to Euro look and new or repros are not available. Jim came down and traced the short for me. That short was causing the fuse to blow everytime I turned the lights on. There are NO more boxes of parts to put on. I'm down to 2 front seat, carpeting and a host of small misc items. I hope to get it aligned next week and put some some miles on it. I've put 26 miles on since I've begun testing. Today 2 Fchatters from Canada came to visit. Great car guys who are restoring a 308GTB. They're now wearing DINO tee shirts. Getting close to the end and will turn my attention to my pictures and getting a dvd to all who wish one. I appreciate all the help I've gotten to get this far. The project looked overwhelming at times but when you focus on one job at a time it's not nearly as daunting. It looks better EVERY time I get on this thread, congrats on only having a few parts to go... Can't wait for the DVD and your NEXT project, is it going to be the Miura or the other Dino that you have in the garage? If it's worth anything I would like to cast a vote for the Lambo as these cars would make a very interesting thread on what you find as you take it apart and how it was constructed etc. Just like this car but only different if you know what I mean... Cross town rivalry and all that good stuff... Anyway great car, great project and this one should end up winning any show it goes to for a superb job...
I would love too have one too for the dino was the reason for me ever wanting a ferrari back in spain when my dad was station in madrid back in 1970-1973 best years of my life
Very interest about ferrari in Madrid. I am spanish, today the are about 15 dinos in Spain. i would like to see this picture of that dino. Thanks!
My brother and I would be the 'Canadians' in question. Thanks again for all the hospitality and for the great tour of the Dino. I can say first hand that Jon and his crew are first class car dudes and that the Dino is everything the photos show and more. Keep up the great work.
Nice details, looks better than new! Scott PS - Watch those "Dino" valve stem caps, I used to have them also and then went to a car show where 3 were removed.
I expect the same. I brought my 430 to crystal cove car show once and caught some kids trying to steal my valve stems.. luckily they had special locks on them!
I lived a few blocks from plaza catessla (spelled wrong) which was at the end of general hessmamo(I'm a bad speller sorry)what I remember was I could get on the subway from there and go any where from there,I'll look for that picture I know I have it
