Less than two hours till the race begins. Hopefully the Kimister can improve his position (by 15 spots) and Massa takes a podium.

The move to impose a 90-second lockout on engine mapping changes at the start of a race will be enough to prevent teams trying to simulate launch control.

That is the view of Ferrari's engine chief Gilles Simon, who thinks that any team's attempt to help boost their drivers' efforts off the line will be negated by the fact they cannot change the engine mapping for some time afterwards.

Although there is a standard ECU in F1 this year, teams are still able to change the engine mapping of their cars.

So in theory they could make one map for perfect acceleration off the line before swapping to a version that is more suited to when the car is up to speed.

However, amid some early suspicions that teams were experimenting with ways to simulate launch control, the FIA has imposed the 90-second lockout - forcing teams to stick to the same engine mapping setting for effectively the first lap of the race.

Simon believes that the move is enough to ward teams away from improving their starts.

"I think the reason behind it (the lockout) was to prevent a very special map that could help a driver," he said in Melbourne. "But it will work much more on even a slight modification that could help the driver.

"If you have a starting map, it (will be) completely undriveable afterwards I would say. It will push us to be reasonable on mapping."

I can't wait for all the cars to crash and reboot after the 90 seconds are up, after all the ECU is a Microsoft product, you wouldn't expect anything less :D

Well, in the 05 Japanese GP, Kimi started 17th and ended up winning the race...and that was in a crappy McLaren :D
So we know he's capable of doing it.

A little over an hour to go...FORZA FERRARI!!

I know this sounds like heresy but Hamilton/McLaren is looking awfully good. But no matter, it is just the first race of a long season.

What I think is funny is you know that the decision to go with that green color was not made by just one person. There was at least somebody else who agreed and said, "ya, that green looks so good." :D

All of us on the western side of the pond are up at that time for almost every race so don't complain buddy. Besides, if Bernie gets his way, the damn race will be run in the middle of the night so Europe isn't inconvenienced...lol.
