I have shields on my 328, basically because of Tony Curtis's 206 Dino in the persuaders... in one episode his car has them and when I was a kid that always stuck in my mind & I knew that one day I would have my own Ferrari.... I would have shields on it as well. I got a pair of stickers from the F-1 Team at Detroit in 86, the PR lady gave me a press kit and a set of stickers... Kept the stickers for "my" Ferrari... so about 8 years later when I bought my 308... the stickers went on... magnetically... then one was lost / stollen in Atlanta about 10 years ago... so I have a better set on the car now. If you dont know the car is a Ferrari, I've found that the shields don't help out the uninformed anymore than the regular badges do... so I dont think its silly at all. I think its better to have the smaller Sports prototype badges than the larger F-1 badges... other than that... wear'em if you got'em!
Three great things about the 288 GTO - turbocharging - that voluptuous body - those shields Prior to the 288 GTO I didn't see one 308 with fender shields. Most 308 owners love the 288 GTO. If you can't own one, you can at least have those sheilds. This IMO is why you see so many aftermarket shields - there's a little bit of the 288 in every 308 - especially if it has shields ...
One out of three *is* bad. Turbocharging is to sophisticated engineering as crack cocaine is to fine wine. Not even the windshield, iirc.
I just put a couple of shields on mine today plus the 348 Spider emblem in the back right hand side engine lid the American spiders never came with this emblem they removed them when they were first delivered from all the spiders I can't remember the reason why. I think it really completes the car, it ties everything together nicely..
There seems to be a contention that the shields represent "over-badging" of the car, and I beg to differ. Other than the shields, the only badging on the exterior of the 328 are: the silver cavallinos on the front grill and rear fascia, the rectangular yellow emblem on the front upper panel, the "Ferrari" script on the engine cover, and the four wheel caps. And the wheel caps are the only badging visible on the side. Even with the shields, this is less than many other vehicles you see on the road. Consider the original Datsun 240Z: the "styling analysis" in Road & Track took them to task for the excessive number of external emblems on the car.
Thats funny a guy came by in a grey mondial to a Ferrari Day and the organises made him park to the side thinking it was a Merc.
Don't have shields on the 430, they were on the Mondial but I took them off. Those were for the race cars, and were a badge signifying that the car was raced. I guess if someone wants to put them on, it's up to them. Same thing with jail jeans, and other forms of self expression I guess. Art

The SF stickers on Ferrari road cars are the Ferrari owner equivalent to the young auto enthusiast who put graphics, large exhaust pipes and huge wings on their Japanese cars...just a way to get more attention on the road...
And, as if we need more attention. I like the sound of the tubi on my 308...but it's LOUD, like those coke-can duals you see on rice cars...maybe a little too loud, but it cost me near 4 grand all told. That plus shields plus bright red...I'm 58, not 28. Shields were for racing cars...there are more than enough horses on your average/non average road Ferrari, vintage or newer.
LOL... looks to me like your wanting everyone to know what kind of car YOUR driving by your tags. (Plural 2 tags LOL) your a cool guy Frank but you crack me up say one thing & do the opposite Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Personally I don't want my car to look like an Easter egg with stickers everywhere. I believe putting the side emblems on an F-car (ONE on each side) as non-offensive, any more than that on a NON race car is absurd. I also don't find anything wrong with ONE Ferrari stciker on my other NON Ferrari cars, but it needs to be something other than the "SF" type. To me the "SF" signifies the racing team.
The only thing I do to 'prep' the car for a nice tour is put on my magnetic shields. My mechanic gave them to me, and I feel connected to the drive by adjusting something before starting the car. (Sad but if you knew my mechanical skills you'd think it smart to let me play with magnets).
Completely agree. I like them on the cars, but the argument that they must be on only factory track cars makes no sense. It hasn't since they started offering them as an $1800 option... And it's your car, put whatever you want on them. You paid for the car, and continue to pay for it. Maybe think about a large "Alice" sticker on the front quarter panel if that what floats your boat.
Disagree with this too. Just because someone wants to pay homage to a tradition (and be honest all, they don't really look BAD on any Ferrari) is not the equivilent of those idiots making they Nissans look like a cereal box. I don't have them on mine, but really like the way they look on most F-cars. This is just one of those personal taste questions that everyone here takes too personally. If you bought it, it's yours...and opinions are like @#$holes...
