guys, u know how crazy the weather have been here yesterday. i live about 20 mins away from the circuit. it started raining heavily non stop the moment quali started, right till about 10 pm. at sepang, it rained non stop after the quali. so, while it's really bright and sunny now, could be a diff situation in a few hours time :) but, do gear up for a wet race, i just have a feeling..

I'm racing to finish a political science essay so I can watch the race - I've got 4 hours! I wonder how the start will develop mid-pack with lewis behind alonso? any thoughts?

as long as it doesn't rain i doubt lewis will have that much difficulty getting around alonso. the mclaren is that much better than the renault.

...Hamilton will try to outbrake Heiki...but guess what, Heikki isnt going anywere that isnt forward...Lewis is been pretty agressive with him...and the guy has shown NO mercy...in Q3 Hamilton was trying to pass him to have a clean shot...but heikki wouldnt lift so...we'll se...I hope life gets VERY hard for McLaren in the Back...we need to make up the ground we lost in Aussie...like Hamilton not taking any point for whatever the reason...like that we can keep things leveled...and giving some more to heiki so we put more pressure on him.

...I think Hamilton will brake in the last possible sec before relinquishing behind Heikki for the WHOLE first third...some parts are going to fly!!!...

    ...besides...

...if you have a set of brand new ceramic FERRARI F1 brakes on your car...wouldnt you try to outbrake anyone else?

    ...I would :) !!!

i can't help but think that Mac opted run heavier, and also wet setups? in case of the rain...while Ferrari opted dry setup and low fuels?

The car might be better, but the driver needs to be good enough to take advantage of that. We've all seen what happens when Hamster starts mid-pack.

Alonso was 3.3s off his Q2 time. Either he really did get massively balked, or he's heavy on fuel -- in which case, the McLarens should be able to get the jump on Alo off the line without too much trouble (no more Renault special launch control) -- at least, until they reach Webber. ;)

Since Phil was only 1.3s off his Q2 time, I'm hoping Shumi taught him the trick of getting a huge gap before pitting. ;)

But I doubt Alonso would try a 1 stop at Sepang -- I don't think you can get that kind of distance on options there. Fred may be praying for rain late in the race.

So, both McLarens got penalised and moved back 5 places in the grid.

There are now 6 slower cars between Kimi and Hamilton. This should be interesting.

    Provisional grid :

    1. Felipe Massa, Ferrari
    2. Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari
    3. Jarno Trulli, Toyota
    4. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber
    5. Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber
    6. Mark Webber, Red Bull
    7. Fernando Alonso, Renault
    8. Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren
    9. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren
    10. Timo Glock, Toyota
    11. Jenson Button, Honda
    12. David Coulthard, Red Bull
    13. Nelson Piquet, Renault
    14. Rubens Barrichello, Honda
    15. Sebastian Vettel, Toro Rosso
    16. Nico Rosberg, Williams
    17. Giancarlo Fisichella, Force India
    18. Sebastien Bourdais, Toro Rosso
    19. Takuma Sato, Super Aguri
    20. Adrian Sutil, Force India
    21. Anthony Davidson, Super Aguri
    22. Kazuki Nakajima, Williams

...1 sec diff was a lot...so I guess 3 or 4 laps will separate Ferrari from McLAren...but I dont think the rain set ups are on the cars...those set ups will be just too much of a risk if rain doesnt make it before the first 3rd...

is just a bit more/less fuel...what we need is a DRY first stint and make a lot of room...

FORZA FERRARI!!! ...lets see them shake the Aussie results away for good.

..but you are forgetting Hamilton is behind Heikki...THAT is the first clue, if none of them gives...lots of shiny MClaren parts for souvenirs...not to mention they are in-between a lot slower cars...

that first corner is going to be one hell of a wreck if ANYBODY screws an inch...

This is true, but don't forget Alonso is kind of a d**k and REALLY doesn't like Hamilton. Further, Alonso is a hell of a driver and knows how to keep someone behind him...remember Monza '05 with Schumacher 2 seconds a lap faster but no way around.

I wish Brian could be at the tracking as the "man on the scene" instead of the suckling Peter Windsor. Keep us posted on the weather! I am hoping for rain, just because the best races ever always seem to be those where it rained.

Will Kimi pass Massa at the start? Will he pass him at all?

Will Hamilton be able to get around Heiki? Easily?

Will Alonso put up a big fight, especially to Hamilton?

How will the BMW's do this time around?

Are the Toyotas super light on fuel or are they getting speed?

    Will it rain?

    Who will crash out?

Will the Ferrari engines hold together?

Will Ferrari close the gap to McLaren?

How will the Williams fit in to the picture?

I am super excited to learn the answers to all of those!

    Waiting with baited breath!
