no, that's gates belt number straight from gates site. napa might drop the 0, not sure why. but that is the correct info and a very good price. I can source them from worldpack but they're $51 for the OEM. the 2v mitsu cross over is MD 326059 for the conti-tech and is about $30.
Scott, T288 is also straight from the Gates site. I got it by dropping the NAPA number into their interchange lookup:
Search Results for: 250288 --> Gates Product Line Part Number Gates Comment __Belt Drive Components ____Synchronous Belts & Timing Components _______Automotive Timing Belts _________NAPA (U.S.) Belts & Hose 250288 T288
I can then put T288 into the part # lookup & get: The P/N lookup says it can't find the T2088. Am I looking in the wrong place? T2088 is an automotive belt P/N isn't it? I've been able to find GATES T288 on multiple automotive supply sites, but so far not 1 recognises T2088.
that's the right belt, odd that the '0' gets dropped. still trying to get an interchange to the conti belt though, I keep getting a flennor belt for that model of mitsu though.
Paul the spacers are done for the early carb engines, contact me and I can get a set out to you. UPDATE: I have a new custom belt for the QV's and 3.2's from Gates, cost is more than std. but the one they originally spec'd wasn't working out. it'll run $75 per belt.
Scott, Don't just say 'wasn't working out' w/o some specifics. What was the problem with the earlier belt for 4V engines? Do I have to toss the 2 T288s I bought a few weeks ago & get these special ones?
sorry, the reason is the t288's are .375" too long and the tensioner can not take up enough of the slack to get proper tension on the belt. If you can return the belts please do, if not send them to me and I'll get you the new ones for the difference. my goof. thanks
Is there any way to press a sleeve on to the tensioner pulley to make it larger enought to work? Or maybe us a 2v tensioner? anything to avoid a custom belt.
yes, I had a sleeve designed and ready to mfg, but the additional cost wasn't going to make sense when Gates can make the belt without me having to pay for setup cost.
The problem with a custom belt is how long will they run them and how long will you even care? Everybody gets older and moves on in life and 10 years from now when guys need there second belt change, or maybe 15 year when they need their 3rd, will there still be belts? There will if it fits millions (maybe down to 100s of thousands by then) other cars on the road. Just a thought, but sustainability is one of the biggest concerns (right after reliability) that most people have with aftermarket or hotrod parts.
Okay on to the belt concern. the belt is available thru Gates thru the industrial side. it's a not going out of production at any time, it's accutually a better belt than the automotive application as this one is constructed to resist oil and higher temps then the t-288. it even fits the tooth profile better with near zero backlash. the belt is 920-8MGT-30. now it's odd but Gates according tot he updates I get has discontinued the T288 and will only be available until stocks are depleted. I'm waiting on response to see if they've updated the catalog number. here's a PDF of the new belt. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was looking for something on the Gates web site & found out that Gates has brought out a line of PowerGrip GT3 synchronous belts that supercedes & is fully compatible with their PowerGrip GT2 line. The Gates p/n for the GT3 belt for the 308 QV is: 9356-1002 it still retains the SKU: 920-8MGT-30 number. Google reveals that there are still a lot of the GT2 belts out there. If you want the GT3 design, best to search for "GT3 920-8MGT-30", otherwise you'll come up with the older GT2 version. BTW, best price I found for the GT3 920-8MGT-30 was $31.00 at: Gates 920-8MGT-30 920-8MGT-30 - 9356-1002
