Do you know how embarassing it is to have a bulb burned out on the TR? I was so consious of it. Eveytime I was at a stop light, I was thinking about the guy/gal behind me thinking " look at that moron, he's got a Ferrari, but doesn't care about the maintaince....poser ! "

I have checked everywhere with no luck. Ferrari will only sell you a new 3rd brakelight assembly for $400.00 I checked Napa, Walmart, Discount Auto, Advance, Pep Boys and even GM dealers ( the light assembly has a GM part #) with no luck ( part # comes up not available in GM's computers ) I even check out a few on-line light companys recommended by F chat links. .....no luck.

After 2 threads and 1 1/2 years of searching, I have FINALLY FOUND the bulb that goes in the third brake light in a Testarossa.

OK, here it is.....GE Automotive Lighting Halogen 12V 891/BP Stop, Fog $6.91

I found it at .....ready? Walmart. Yes, yes, I said I checked at Walmart before. I would just keep checking everywhere all the time. They must have just started carrying it.

I actually found it by chance. The bulb in the TR doesn't have any stampings on it, so you can't match it. I saw this one, hmmm...kinda looks like it...two prongs, small glass , same shape, ok, I'll try it. It matched in size to the blown one...ok, I'm getting excited...keep calm...I bet the luminance value is off, it says halogen on the package....halogen for a brakelight?!? I put it in, turn the assembly towards the rear window under the engine cover.....hit the brakes....Voila ! YEAH...BABY, YEAH !!!

Even fully assembled, in the dark, it is a perfect match.

I would have never thought that the bulb would be a halogen.

Now, anyone got a line on the white plastic bulb holders in the TR? One of the plastic "twist-locks" that goes inside of the light unit broke off.

Okay. Importec has the best price at 27 bucks and change. Bosch # 0 437 502 047
I shudder to think what Ferrari would want.

    Dear Ferraristi,

For the rotors, I went to the F pimp

For the spark plug wires, I use magnecor. 4 years later and no problems.

The alternator is in fact a 120 Amp Delco alternator. However, it is difficult to match the factory wiring harness plug if buyiing a new one. I also had mine rebuilt at a "hole in the wall" shop in East TN. The guy (owner) said it was the "diode plate" and these 120A models require the 9-pack diode plate (as opposed to a 7). He said they normally will "burn up" if the battery is disconnected while the alternator is charging. It cost me $54 with sales tax. BTW, "Engineer" are you in Knoxville? I am just outside.

I put walmart tan polyester floormats in my X - BBi !! I took them from my Z-3.

I had a Diablo, and I purchased from O'Reilly, a Borg and Warner distributor cap for about $40.00. Pulled it out of the box, and inside of the cap, it had Made in Italy molded in the cap. I think the dealer wanted about $800.00 for the part ? I also purchased the rotor for about $25.00. I think the dealer wanted $250.00 for the rotor.

    Great thread!!!

As others have mentioned in other threads, a lot of the metric nuts and hardware are available from Fastenal...especially in the yellow zinc...which is impossible to find...

    Some further thoughts...

The original muffler can be sand blasted and comes out looking new... :).

This really should be a sticky!

Anyone find good replacement headlights for the TR's. Meaning, a bit brighter, easy plug and play install, that will not burn up the old wiring.

    HOOD AND TRUNK LIFT STRUTS

I found an older on-line catalog for Sachs who makes replacement lift struts for many of the Ferraris. http://www.sachsna.com/owx_medien/media103/10360.pdf

Pepboys carries the three for the TR

    SG437003 for the trunk ($69.69)
SG337002 for the Left engine ($71)
SG337001 for the Right engine (77.05)

I googled the part numbers and found a place in NY that is even less expensive..... Trunk ($42), Left ($49), Right ($54). Shipping was another $7....

    http://www.nextdayautoparts.com/body-trunk-lid-and-compartment-trunk-lid-lift-support.html

They have a nice selection of other items, and I bet with some digging you could prob cross reference a few items from them.
