Aside from the Favre retiring thread, I don't really see a lot about The National Football League of F-Chat...I guess I'm asking what you guys thought of the free agent acquisitions of this pre-season.

Here's where I have it...and I'm only going to do the winners...obviously Tommy Kelly and things of that nature are a little unbelievable. Whatever.

    Winners: OAK - Javon Walker - 6 yr./55M w/16M guaranteed (He's Javon Walker)
    - Gibril Wilson - 6 yr./39M w/about 16M guaranteed (I am bias on this, I really think Wilson is a great S)
    - Drew Carter - 1 yr./2M (strong, 6'3" and decent-enough hands. can go over the middle, looked good in SD)
    - Nnamdi Asomugha - Franchise year for at least 9.8M (one of the top 3 man to man CB's in the NFL)
    - Justin Fargas - 3 yr./12M w/6M guaranteed (not LaMont Jordan, but is a starter)
    - DeAngelo Hall - apparently the Falcons and Raiders are almost done with this one for a 2nd round pick (no numbers yet)

CLE - Derek Anderson - 3 yr./26M w/14.5M guaranteed (good looking QB, obviously great season last year...K2/Braylon/Jurevicius/Stallworth?)
Donte Stallworth - 7 yr./35M w/10M guaranteed (highest yac almost every year, from Philly to Foxborough...Cleveland could be good)
    Corey Williams - 6 yr./38M w/16.3M guaranteed (a high-priced DT, played decent in GB)
Jamal Lewis also got a conditional 3 yr./12-13M w/5-6M guaranteed

JAC - Drayton Florence - 6 yr./36.1M w/12M guaranteed (good CB to help Mathis, solidifies the secondary w/Thompson & Sensabaugh)
Jerry Porter - 6 yr./30M w/10M guaranteed (smaller in comparison to Jones/Williams/Wilford, but is a vet)
    Cleo Lemon - 3 yr./8.1M w/2.95M guaranteed/4M incentives (good 2nd string QB, similar to Garrard in QB-type)

MIA - Yeremiah Bell - 1 yr./1.4M (post-ACL injury, but in 2006, he started 11 of 16 games in which he played and recorded 65 tackles,
two sacks, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles)
    Josh McCown - 2 yr./6.25M (decent back-up with experience starting...no starter, though)
Ernest Wilford - 4 yr./13M w/6M signing bonus (6'4"/220, can make NFL catches, no alligator arms, strong as a horse)
Reggie Torbor - 4-yr./14M (Liked him with Kiwanuka/Strahan and the gang...decent LB)

NO - Randall Gay - 4 yr./17.6M (small, but quick enough to handle the slot, very physical CB)
Devery Henderson - 1 yr./2M (quick AND fast, not ideal height-wise, but can catch anything when he's on)
Dan Morgan - 1 yr./1.48M (again, an Achilles-injury victim, but was alright for Carolina and will be good on the weak side for NO)
Jonathan Vilma - NO gives NYJ a 4th round pick...no numbers yet. (great LB, you know if you watch football)

NYJ - Jesse Chapman - 1 yr./?M (looked good last year, but I don't know if he's a reason not to draft McFadden)
Alan Faneca - 4 yr./32M w/ 23M guaranteed (big contract, great guard, hopefully Thomas Jones has a good season)
Bubba Franks - 1 yr./1.65M (good veteran TE, who can block as well as he can receive)
    Calvin Pace - 6 yr./42M w/20-22M guaranteed (big money. DE/LB freak who plays the 3-4 well. 182 tackles/14 sacks in 67 games)
    Damien Woody - 5 yr./25M w/11M guaranteed (former 1st rounder, ProBowl w/the Pats, a bit of a gamble)

SF - Isaac Bruce - 2 yr./6M (the only one left to play in L.A. All kidding aside, Bruce is still a great WR and has the two years left in him)
DeShaun Foster - 2 yr./1.8M (was overrated, now he's underrated and he'll get good yds. as a backup to Gore)
Bryant Johnson - 1 yr./?M (quick and fast, can one-hand if he needs to, should work well with Mike Martz)
Allen Rossum - 1 yr./870K (replaces Lewis as a KR/PR, takes 'em to the house)
Dontarrious Thomas - 2 yr./?M (decent LB with MIN, improves the position depth, and the Niner's are short-handed as of now)
Justin Smith - 6 yr./45M w/20M guaranteed (questionable...never got to be an every-down lineman in CIN)

TEN - Alge Crumpler - 2 yr./5M w/1M guaranteed (30 years old, one of the best TE's in the NFL)
Jevon Kearse - 2 yr./6M w/1.3M guaranteed (the freak...yes, i will give up Travis Laboy for Jevon Kearse)
Justin McCareins - 1 yr./1M (decent WR in NY. adds depth)

other notables imo were: ATL - Michael Turner - 6 yr./34.5M w/15M guaranteed (he's a starter anywhere but San Diego, I'm from around Dekalb so I'm
    happy he got his deal)

PHI - Asante Samuel - 6 yr./57.14M w/20M guaranteed (one of the best CB's in the NFL. Lito Sheppard and Asante?!?)
CIN - Antwan Odom - 5 yr./29.5M w/11.5 guaranteed (great DT in TEN, Haynesworth will miss him, but oh well.)
    MIN - Bernard Berrian - 6 yr./42M w/16M guaranteed (I'm a Bears fan, so I won't say anything. Berrian is an excellent
receiver, but to be the 4th highest-paid WR in the league? Sorry.)

my team resigned Briggs, got Brandon Lloyd from Washington and got Marty Booker ... again.
they let Moose and Berrian go, who cares about Ayanbadejo.

so anyways, this is what happens when you get board.

The tendency to long term, big money deals seems to becoming more prevalent. Most of the big money deals are all for defensive players.

The Vikings have done great this offseason, Berrian might be overpaid but we have the cap room, and signing Madieu Williams gives us a very good safety combo with Sharper and Williams. Now if we can get Derrick Harvey in the draft

Not sure if he was a free agent, but the luckiest MF is David Carr.

What are the Giants smoking to sign him for a 1 year deal at $1million?

Do they think they can get him on track and actually focus on work for once? I'm just trying to find their logic in signing him.

I don't think they'll be looking to do anything for Carr except have him be a number two...and that's one hell of a lot better than their current backup, Jared Lorenzen. Please tell me someone has seen this beast: 6'4"/285+ lbs. Sloppy.

    Good backup, that's all.
How many backups are there that have a ton of experience - AND are cheap ?

When he played he was not bad at all.
Peyton Brady he ain't, but he didn't stink up the place.
And remember - NFL teams see a TON of QB's - especially non-'star' QB's - they can pick about any of them - and they kept him for 2007, so he may not be as bad as you think.

Let's be honest, the Raiders are ruining their team, the Jets WAY overpaid for average players (Faneca's best football is behind him) and the Pats are really thin at CB now. The only team that got better was the Browns... and they got a lot better. They have the makings of a top 5 offense and a top 10 defense.

J-Load is the 2nd best QB in the NFL (behind Romo). He has a cannon for an arm, is mobile, and takes about 3 people to take him down. He played a few downs in the Giants 1st game of the season when Eli got injured, I was impressed with him and would have him start for the G-Men instead.
Nicknames for Jared: J-Load, Pillsbury Throwboy, Hefty Lefty, Round Mound of Touchdown, and the Abominable Throwman.

Saying the Browns have "the makings of a top 5 offense", I actually think that is too low, I predict this offense will without doubt be one of the best in the NFL this year

Can you imagine Lorenzen in Chicago ?

Yeah, that might work - or Detroit.

    Not sure about Green Bay...

with draft day coming up quick, the free agent market is beginning to cool down, (it's actually been cool for about the past week) and teams are trying to figure out what they're going to do with their picks. for instance, when the rams released gus frerotte, i was certain they were going to take a qb with their first pick, but now that they picked up trent green, (still a bad move, imo) they're going to do something that is definitely needed, get orlando pace some help on the o line.

I think if the Rams get Jake Long they'll be back on track. Marc Bulger is a good QB and the Rams have great skill players too, even with Bruce gone I'd say Torry Holt and Drew Bennett are one of the better WR duos in the league

On paper the Browns look to have a potent offense, but look at the characters in the locker room. Can you say Cincinnati Bengals?

last year they were a titans loss away from being the wildcard...

as I said in the original thread post, their offense combined with Stallworth is going to be formidable.

the only guy i worry about is Shaun Rogers, everyone else seems to be well tempered. I think these guys respect Romeo enough not to become the Bengals anyway.

My Vikes just picked up Gus Frerotte, he should be a good backup to Tarvaris Jackson, but I would have preferred if we went after Sage Rosenfels

Say what you want about T-Jack, but he was 8-4 as a starter last year, and now he is throwing to some good receivers...throw in the best running game in the NFL and this Vikings offense is set

I actually like Jackson, he just needs to grow up. I couldn't tell you how many times I saw him throwing off of his back foot and things of that nature during the course of his starts.

he plays too much like steamin' willie beaman for me to like him.
