F149 ALL THE FACTS - Convertible!!!

Very true. I'm sure that twenty years from now Ferraris will still have four wheels and two doors and two doors as well, but what about 12 cylinders, or 8 for that matter? As a younger kid I fell in love with Ferrari due to the sound they produced, only later with time I started appreciating their looks and history.

In any case, I'm confident that Ferrari will find a way around these problems whilst maintaining the essence of its spirit. Over next few years we'll probably see direct fuel injection, smaller displacement engines with turbos (I do however hope Ferrari will somehow continue making at least one naturally aspirated V12 GT as per tradition), lighter cars and stop&start technology on Ferraris.

As the 'average cars' get more and more efficient over the years I hope that in the log-run maybe laws will be less stringent on sports cars as they only represent a small slice of the market...or is this simply wishful thinking?

At the end of the day, I'm sure that us Ferraristi will get through this as well...



P.S.- Are we sure that Euro 5 requires stop & start technology? There are a number of 'Euro 5 Ready' cars on the market without S&T.

 

Only in detail both the 599 and Daytona are big GT supercars with a v12 in front of 2 seats a space for luggage behind the seats, a big boot (or trunk if you prefer!) and a large fuel tank to take the owner and (hopefully attractive) passenger from one place to another very quickly. Yes the 599 is faster and undoubtably safer which are good things but it is also much bigger which is not a good thing. Both have dreadful fuel consumption.

Personally I hope Ferrari in the future looks to a smaller high revving v12 say 3.0 or possibly 3.3 liters producing say 400-450bhp fitted into a car with a smaller physical footprint.

 

I think Start & Stop will be required at some point.

 

And transparent.

Are the days of exotic proportion ferrari's gone???

Notice I did not say exotic, I said exotic proportions

Where are the low slung, wide vehicles...I appreciate ferrari commemorating its heritage by creating modern looking versions of previous models, but how about something for a few hundred K ($400k would be just right) that can compete with the LP640 in the "exotic proportions" department

 

I contacted my dealer last week and put myself on his "F149 List". Hope the car lives up to what I'm expecting. If not I can cancel.

 

Not sure if its Farina or Ferrari who is to blame, but i agree: you can see the stylist(s?) struggling to mask a weak chassis shape in most recent cars.
Its just so noticeable on Ferraris because we have the old, thoroughbred examples to look back to.

Even the LP640 is a few orders of magnitude less dramatic a shape than say a SE30 Diablo, despite sharing a considerable amount of chassis technology.

I recently saw a 360 parked next to a 348, immediately i lost some of the faith


Would a car have to be somewhat 'illegal' today to achieve the proportions of a Miura?
Would exotics turning to that degree of illegality to achieve those proportions add to their allure?

Are you suggesting that a 348 looked better to you than 360??? OMG! I can't even imagine that. Everybody has different taste, but to me the 348 is the red headed step child of the 3X8 family! I think overall the market agrees as it is one of the least expensive too, especially if you consider how relatively new they are (vs. a 308, 328).

I meant in regards to the general shape and proportioning of the car, though I am a fan of the 348 overall.
In comparison the 360 tens to look like a Dino with downs + edema problems, and by drastically shrinking the headlights on the 430 farina didn't help that at all.

The 348 looks as if someone draped some cloth over a race chassis and cut minimal indentations for lights, windows etc where the 360 looks pedestrian and taurus*

* now an adjective: used to describe car styling that causes one to recall the 90s obsession with round, bland, "aero" shapes.


I dont think that the problem of a boring basic shape can be solved by adding superfluous details as was attempted on the 612 (scallops), 599 (rear brake vents and hood creases) and 430 (too much to list), and I dont expect that those mistakes will be avoided in the new car. Its just cheaper to use a basic shape thats proven to be aero and packaging friendly, and add the 'styling' later.

You are conditionned during your childhood to like some stuff and dislike others.

The quality you would see out of those items are not universal, you are just conditionned to think so.
While you grow, you're becoming less and less receptive to changings...

If you talk to someone older than you he will say that the 250 GTO is crappy and he rather have a Ford T.

If there's one things I know for sure, is that Ferrari even in 2028 will be the hottest stuff around in the car ecosystem, and kids of that time will find the 599 very outdated and will love the new Ferrari F141 Dubai Hydrogen

Maybe I missed something but why is called the F149? Don't the numbers usually relate to the engine?

Its a one litre forty nine cyl.

 

F149 is Ferrari's internal name for the car. It will have a different name when the car goes on sale.

 

Ferrari is about turning profit & giving its customers what they want. The extreme exotic proprotions car will be the next car that replaces the Enzo. You'll just have to wait for that or possibly the 430's replacement next year. Lots of these guys I talk to are happy with what Ferrari is doing at the moment. Plus the styling will probably be tweaked in 2010 but the everyday driver like the 599 won't get over the top styling like the Murcielago.

Lamborghini has boxed itself in a corner. The only cars they can successful sell is one with wild exotic over the top looks. If they ever strayed from that formula, say go in the direction of a front engine beautiful practical car like the 575, 599 or Aston, they'd go out of business. Hopefully for them they will have an expanding market in Russia, China & India to sell the everyday wild stuff to.

 

SHOCK!!!............this is suppose to be a price of an entry level car???

 

Im not sure this car is the sketch for the 599. This looks way too Gran Turismo for me to believe it was drawn before the Maser came out. Ferrari had a very bold design for the 599 to begin with - I always thought the photo below was of the sketches form Pininfarina...
