Haha, I just had a good chuckle! Great posts, and some very funny remarks but wow hold your horses guys. If you examine my posts in this thread you'll find that I never associated myself with the given scenario. You'll notice that I specifically avoided words that would implicate myself in the hypothesis. I think it's an interesting premise to base a discussion on and some of you might be missing the point of this thread altogether. Yes, time has gone by and I age just like everyone else. We could be looking back to when we were younger. What would we have done different, knowing what we know today? Did we do the right thing back then? Regardless of this I see no "bull****" to call, although I admittedly see how one could misinterpret the message - in which case I would urge people to conduct more thorough detective work before tainting what could have been an interesting discussion. Still, some funny comments emerged nevertheless. The thread cannot be deemed completely void of value :)

Oh come on, the original post implied it was you.

    Hey!

    I got a better one!

Suppose you are a 28 year old that lives at home with his mommie and daddy. Suppose you have no savings as all the money made at the grocery store is spent on X-Box games and candy.

Suppose you once had a girlfriend in high school and still think of her a lot.

    What would you do?

    Sure it can.

Frankly, it has. The boys in the back room have called BS on this, and I don't see any reason not to agree.

Let's just see what the rest of the gang thinks during the day.

hahaha, I can work with that:

Suppose you are a 28 year old that still lives at home with his mommie and daddy.

Suppose you have no savings as all the money made at the grocery store is spent on X-Box games and "upgrades" to nice car your parents bought you as a high school graduation gift.

Suppose you once had a girlfriend in high school and you still think of ways to get her back even though she's happily married with 3 kids and lives in another state.

    What would you do?

    :D

I'd keep doing exactly what I did to get the 500K at a young age (assuming it wasn't a gift or inheritance) and keep doing that until I had enough to retire.

He's self-owned even if the current query is a hypothetical redux. Let's say he did start with $500K at 25, 3 years ago. In that case he would have learned about what to do from living and doing it, so that he could expand on his own question (because he made mistakes) or even answer it (because he improved his situation). So either he wasted his life for 3 years or he never was in that situation. reductio ad absurdum. Q.E.D.

I'd stop renting and buy a house (nothing big or fancy) and a car (or just pay off what I have now I owe 19k on it) and then keep the rest for fun and rainy days and to earn still more money while not having to worry about a house or car payment.

You're on a bus, if you slow down below 55MPH the buss will blow, WHAT DO YOU DO?

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Ok, to seriously answer the question for no other reason than it's neat to talk about, here is what I would do.

$400K pay off a nice new build (depending on where I live), or maybe a down on a $500-600K house
$25K Buy stocks in Wal-Mart or some other company, maybe oil, who knows
    $25K Furnish the new house
$50K blow on whatever I feel like.

See, I'm living for the future. The house will appreciate, despite the current economy. I'm talking about 20 years from now, it'll be worth a lot more than it is now. The stock will most likely go up. The furniture will be used and if I buy decent pieces will resale for not a whole lot less than I paid for it, and the $50K to blow will get the money out of my system. It's always good to have some spending money :) Then with my job I'll have plenty of money to live a nice life, especially if I'm making more than $60K a year.
