Per Mateschitz ""We have supported Vettel for six or seven years, even when BMW temporarily borrowed him. I don't like to talk about contractual details."

"But one thing is clear: with Sebastian we have a long term contract." It also emerged on the sidelines of the Malaysian grand prix at Sepang that, while Sebastien

Bourdais signed a one-year Toro Rosso contract for 2008, Vettel's deal is solely with the energy drink Red Bull. So, yes, the situation is a tad complicated.

I think Hülkenberg is too much a rookie... besides, I know someone who met him and says he's an idiot :D

Now THAT is interesting. With the ban of customer cars, Mateschitz is likely to get rid of one of his teams. Why shouldn't he enter a sponsorship deal with Ferrari? Give them Vettel, get a discount on Ferrari engines for his own team...

as deep as Ferrari's pockets are, I can't see them buying out massa's contract and paying for both Alonso & Kimi in the same year. Those three contracts have to total $100m annually....
just my thoughts - a lot will change throughout the year....

Kimi and Alonso on the same team, very very unlikely. Alonso/Massa more likely assuming Phil masters no TC, Alonso/Vettel a distant second. But Alonso at Ferrari is not the cohesive match of Alonso with Flavio, so this is unlikely. Renault will rebound by season end, Alonso will stay. The guys at Ferrari are just very leary of Fred. And the rujor that Luca wants Fred is just that, a rumor, not based on fact.

Better chance of a Senna/Villeneuve Ferrari team next year than Alonso/Massa.

You know, you guys that actually like Alonso (and I am most certainly NOT one of you) may be starting to rub off on me.

After what we've seen from Massa so far this year, I'd actually be very curious to see what Alonso would do in the Ferrari. I may even be able to get over his giant ego and root for the oaf.

But seriously - this is a guy that would be demanding of a paycheck and order of magnitude (or ten) beyond Massas. Does he bring enough spon$or$hip money to make that happen, and if not does Ferrari have the spare coin to pay him? 2 great talents almost assures a WCC, but could hand the WDC to McLaren (if, say, Kimi and Fernando split points to a large extent). Wouldn't that be counter productive for Ferrari?

Maybe he will go to Ferrari but I tend to think it'd be after Kimi leaves. I would dearly love to see Vettel and Massa in a switcharoo with some ca$h involved, and I think it would benefit all parties.

Almost everyone agrees on that. The problem is how to keep Alonso satisfied.

And I suppose that contract costs a lot of money.

Uh, I got my wires crossed: The situation is reversed, BMW borrowed Vettel. So Mateschitz could "sell" Vettel. Thanks Carol for clearing that up!

    From today's Swiss Blick:

Für Massa brechen nach zwei Nullern schwere Zeiten an. Die Nachfolger haben schon Namen: Alonso und Vettel.

Just going by his writing style I'd say he expresses purely his gut feeling, which is not too bad since it is based on what he hears all day in the paddock.

He is pretty sure that Alonso comes to Ferrari. That's all I need to know. He was equally sure Kimi would be at Ferrari when everybody was in denial and Schumacher still in the team.

Renault isn't the place where he wants to get old, it was clear from the beginning that he only joins them because Ferrari didn't have a free cockpit.

Well, with Vettel being from my area I'm more interested in his future :D

I'm a big Alonso fan and I think Vettel has great potential, so I'd like to see either of them in a Ferrari. I'm still not completely sold on Vettel after his debut at Indianapolis. OTOH he has gotten a lot better since and Senor Alonso isn't immune to blunders either.

I want to say that Vettel is a WDC in the making, but I'm not totally convinced just yet. Which might be entirely my problem. Happy to be persuaded otherwise. :)

Why would Ferrari touch him when he caused such a fiasco last year?

He deserves everything he gets if you ask me, never liked him.

I don't care what people say about Alonso. I would much, much, much rather have a guy that can win championships than a guy who can't finish a race without tc. All this cry baby crap, and making questionable comments to the media is meaningless. All I want to see is two red jumpsuits on the podium.

he's just 5 mins in a Renault, and now he's already hinting that he wanna leave? what a jerk. imagine what sort of comments he would have given, if he was in either Massa's or Kimi's place when both the Ferrari engines failed in Aussie.

+1!! and all drivers at some point this year will have issues without traction control. Alonso at Ferrari ONLY without Kimi in the other car. Its a pipe dream until that happens. Because Alonso makes threats and claims mean nothing as far as his wearing red. Is anyone really suprised with his comments. He's in a mid pack car and he is not happy.

Surely to the F1 knowledge God's here this was utterly predictable before winter testing even began. FA is simply feeling left out and getting some much missed press on the heels of ANOTHER poor career decision. He has about 2 yrs left to see Renault improve and his lot with it, or he is simply another older driver who at one point was winning. He will be supplanted soon with others on the rise.

He is fast becoming forgotten in the mid pack. He knows it and F1 has a very short memory no matter who you are. Alonso is no type of team uniter. He is the complete opposite. I look forward to new talent and no Fernando. As stated above his stomach for adversity is very small indeed.

even if he joins and starts winning, just remember how he almost destroyed Mclaren last year. for me, Alonso is a big NO NO. i rather have Rosberg-Vettel partnership anytime on long term.
