    Been unable to get through cal smog for a couple years any suggestions other than moving out of state would be appraciated. Thanks

    I currently work at a dealership that is a licensed Calif. Smog station. I also use to be a licensed smog inspector as well. I can't just write you a smog certificate, but I certainly can give you some guidance so you can get it done. Like the other post, can you provide your readings to us?

    +1 and please post the test limits that you are trying to meet.

    What is your configuration -- a stock working US air injection system with thermal reactor muffler or something else? If necessary (although maybe needs some hanger/insulation mods), you could probably put a '78-'79 exhaust system with cats + muffler on it and get lower numbers at the tailpipes.

    The po had removed the water heated fast idle mechanism, one smog pump was missing, all the rest intact. The santa barbara used car dealer tried to fudge the smog, sold me the car, then called to have me return the car for a re-smog. By that time i had removed the thermal reactor but he said "no problem". i drove it 400 miles and he fussed with it for two and one half days and couldn't get it to pass. Finally under presure from dmv, he sent a flat bed up to get the car, then kept it for about 5 weeks, piddling with it. He said they built a two cat exhaust system and split the air pump output into both injection manifolds and finally got it to pass. This could be a load of bull, i don't know but i finally got my plates.

    Fortunately, bi-annual smogs are not required in humbug county.

    I just wish the swartz had not killed the 30 year rolling exemption.

    My '76 GTB passed in California for many years and I am sure would still pass in California if the car were still in that state. My GTB had its thermo muffler removed back in '80 with a Ansa sport. I still have to pass in Nevada, but the requirements are not as strict as in CA. Here's what I do:

    Oil change, fresh gasoline, ignition/cam timing exact, original stock jetting on the carbs, air pumps operating, fresh spark plugs, engine fully warmed up, and the car passes very easily.
