For any one who might be following the thread and thinking you too would like a 4 valve 5.5 liter V12 in your 308 here's a 550 engine.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NR-Ferrari-550-Maranello-engine_W0QQitemZ230235554176QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230235554176

I didn't think it would fit, but with the engine moved forward and down like I ended deciding to do I'm thinking it could be installed......and buying an engine is a WHOLE lot easier than building one it turns out. My 5.5 liter will be unique and period correct, but this one bolts together with off the shelf parts.

    Exactly!

Here's the rough model for the CUSTOM cam blanks. Because I'm changing the valve spacing on the intakes a bit, all 4 blanks will need to be different from each other, different from the TR cams and also different from the 400 cams. I'll spend some time this weekend trying to figure out where the oil holes get drilled, what the patern is for the timing sprocket keying, where the sprockets go ralative to the front jounal and all that [bold]FUN[/bold] stuff ;)

f-chat comes through again on rods. With a heads up from another f-chatter followed by good luck I just aquired the rest of the Titanium rods I needed........but some are 360 with a B weight code and some 355 with a G weight code (360 and 355 have a different part number, but I have not idea what the difference is). Now I need to call all the salvage yards and see what I can swap for to put a matching set together.

Yard work season has now offically arrived so it was a slow car work weekend.

I never shipped the block becasue I realized I needed to take some measurements to know exactly where the chain sprockets needed to end up when I make the cams. I did get that measured so I can finish creating the block tonight I hope.

I also realized that even with new cams I'll still need to set them up to have the sprockets install backwards because I just don't have enough room fro the flange with them sprockets installed normally. Now I'll need to make a sprocket drawing before I can finish the cam drawings.......

For thos that didn;t see the tech thread, I got the quote back on gun-drilling the cam blanks....$250....each

That's not in the budget. I'm going to try one on the mill and see what happens tomorrow or the next day. I'll either save the $1000 or lose a $100 piece of material while getting a cool picture :)

The block is FINALLY created and will ship in the morning! I now have all 4 hunks of billet so on to drilling the cams.

Posting tonight took a little more effort than normal due to a fan failure, but I got it working again, for now anyway...and only 2 screws left over, not bad.

    2 screws only?

    Pity.

Now you need to take that laptop apart and put it back together another 13,071 times before ending up with two of them! ;)

I have 12 Gigs of RAM from a SUN server. You could add a lot of plastic onto your motherboard, then drill out some new holes; don't forget to add the electric pathways to the current RAM. Well Sun RAM may not fit perfectly so you will have to move the attachment points....

    :)
