Hello watch lovers. I will use this thread to post some of newest arrivals but please feel free to post pics of your favorites as well! First up, as pictured in the other thread the Glashutte Tourbillon XL. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very rare Breitling Bentley 6.75 rose gold with diamonds on case and bracelet. Black mother of pearl dial. Only 25 pieces produced. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ray, what's the price for that one? Do you have the normal 6.75 or Motors in yellow gold as well? Price? Thanks!
Love the Glashutte, but I'm not a big fan of this design. It reminds me of a black and white cookie. I'm struggling with Glashutte vs Lange. Obviously a different price point, but what do you say to people who suggest that the Glashutte is a "poor-man's" Lange?
I'd be willing to charge you more for the Glashutte if that makes you happy! Both brands are wonderful. I love Lange too. The people at Glashutte Original claim that they make more of their own components than Lange does. I find that Glashutte also offers many more styles as well.
I have a platinum Lange 1815 and a GO Senator Nav PanoDate. They are both great and of high quality but the Lange is on another planet. I will say that I like the way GO does their BigDate complication better. Also, GO has a much wider selection of styles and price points. Also, GO hit it out of the park at Basel this year. Their RG Rattapante (sp?) is drop dead gorgeous! That said, IMO, the Lange 1815 is the most beautiful timepiece ever made. The platinum version was my grail and I will never part with it.
Sold this one a while ago but thought you guys would like to see this. Breitling Bentley Mulliner Tourbillon Chronograph. 47mm platinum case and bracelet. Weighs a ton! Image Unavailable, Please Login
It must! It probably cost many tons too! I held a Platinum Rolex President and that thing was heavy enough (or maybe it was a Daytona...I can't remember) anyway, either one of those is smaller than the watch you sold and neither is a Tourbillon, so at $100k it probably is not even in the same league as the Breitling. The watches are just stunning! James Austin, TX
I appreciate the insight from an owner. I'll be in Vegas in two weeks, and I'll be doing some serious comparison shopping between Torneau, Tessorini and that little watch shop in the Venetian.
WOW! That is stunning! More than 2.5X my first house from back in '89! It was a nice house too! Of course money then was worth a lot more than it is today... I look forward to seeing more cool watches on this thread. Gotta dream, and might as well dream big! James Austin, TX
I have a question for all you lux watch buffs. I happened to come across one of these while looking at high end watches on the web and was intrigued by it. They are SOOOO cool! There are several companies that make them (even Seiko, but with their hand built line Credor Sonnerie, or whatever) and I have not seen one below about $75,000 and apparently they can go well above $100k. My question... Are there any AFFORDABLE versions of this watch? I LOVE how they work (though I don't understand how the chime counts out the time...I would love a tutorial on that as well as just general info) and they sound so COOL! All from a wrist watch. I guess I should define "affordable" for this thread. I guess to me an affordable version of something this COOL and UNIQUE would be under $20k. I can't imagine you could find one even for that, but you just never know... Thanks guys! James Austin, TX
Minute repeaters are available for sub $20k. In fact, Citizen makes one for around $350 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=751poNHRJcQ) -dsd
Thanks dsd. I did a little more searching and also found one from Bulova. They are CLEARLY not of the caliber that they $100k repeaters are, but you would not expect a Kia to rival a Ferrari either! There seem to be some nice ones around $7k. Still out of my range for now, but I will probably get Chris on that Citizen (since he sells those for sure) or maybe the Bulova. Thanks again! James
Keep in mind there is a huge difference between a mechanical repeater and a quartz one. It's quite simple to get a battery operated watch to chime but a watch with no battery or electronics whatsoever is a whole different ballgame. It's all a very complicated arrangement of gear cutting, spring placement, etc. Very difficult to do. Minute repeaters being the most expensive then quarter repeaters, five minute repeaters, etc. (of course in the upper stratophere there are grande and petite sonnerie watches, long explanation for another time) Chronoswiss makes a 5 minute repeater based off the old Kelek 5 minute repeater movement. If you can find an old Kelek or Nivrel (same movement) that would be one of the least expensive mechanical repeating wristwatches out there.
I think most of the ones that I have heard must be the sonnerie. A few of them were listed that way, and they are GLORIOUS! Will keep an eye out for a Kelek or Nirvel. What would you expect an excellent condition used one to go for? James Austin, TX
Let's go with an automotive theme today. TAG Heuer limited edition Carrera to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of JM Fangio's last F1 victory. Very cool anthracite dial with his signature at 4:00 and in red on the caseback. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Modeled after a tire pressure gauge, the Manometro S. Carbon fiber case and dial with titanium caseback. One of the lightest automatic watches you will ever wear. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ray, those are VERY COOL! I know it may hurt, but you have to throw some $$$$ up there so we will know if we should just drool or pick up the phone and give you a call! LOL! James Austin, TX
