What's the lowest temp to which you will expose your 3X8? With all its aluminum is it unwise to go out in 30's? 20's? Obviously oil viscosity is a concern but assume an appropriate wt.

If the roads are clear of salt, the GT4 gets driven regardless of temp. It's a car that is made to be driven, plus the carbs really like cold temps. :)

I would think the same thing and that there's little if any effect, but my wrench expressed concern about thermal impressionability of the aluminum in lower than 30s. Just wanted to poll the board.

Most everyday cars now have aluminum heads if not engines. I think your mechanic might be over analyzing some.

I live in a condo with underground parking, so the temp in the garage never falls below maybe 60 degress. I ALWAYS warm up my car for about 8 to 10 minutes before driving it (the garage has exhaust gas sensors and will turn out outside fans if too much CO builds up).

All that to say that I've driven my car in the wonderful colorado air down to the 20s, as long as there is NO SNOW, and of course, the car is properly warmed up prior to pulling it out.

BTW, my car is a GTS, and I go out in 20s with the windows up but the top off :) Its a convertible!!!! And the heater works fine, unlike my VW based cars lol.

I have driven mine with temps in the low 30s. As long as the streets are dry, I drive. Salt can get washed off. I also stuff a towel in the air intake for the oil cooler. This helps get the oil temp up to normal faster and holds there better. Never had a problem in cold weather.

Don't the 328's have the "hot/cold weather" lever on the oil cooler box for this very purpose? My GT4 does. The lever closes off the air intake....

Mine doesn't. Just an air duct directly to the oil cooler.

Ahh, to live in southern Texas. No salt, no ice, and it's big enough for Ferraris and Porches to live together in peaceful harmony.

(we did have snow about three Christmases ago, maybe .00005" and that was cool)

March 9 2007, the day I bought mine, 8 deg. was the high that day. 100 mile drive home. But the roads were dry and free of salt. It will probably never see anything below 60 deg. again. I like driving with the top off.

Now that I think about it I think he was actually referring to starting it in very cold temps as if parked overnight outside of a warmer garage. Anyway, thanks for the replies.

on the coldest day it will never get much below 40s here in southern cal, but I love taking my sportier cars out in the cold weather. it might be all in my head, but i just feel an extra bit of snap to them in the chilly air. the throttle reponse seems just a bit better and it makes it more fun.

Not your imagination - the engines definitely like the cold denser air better and I notice the same riding my Ducs in frigid temps (but I run heated gear so the temps down to 15F aren't an issue).

Like others have said, I too drive my car regardless of the temp. As long as the roads are clear. :)

Coldest was -17F and she was fine. Did a few -5 to -10 days a few years back. Used a heater on the oil pan for a bit, had her filled with 0W-30. Great driving as the heat, unlike the AC, works awesome in the 308 :)

Me too. And we've had some single-digit days here in New Jersey this winter. I still have the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s mounted on the 308 so I have to take it easy when it's like that.
