While vacationing, by chance I happened on a red Lusso today in a showroom. I went inside to look and noticed 4831 stamped on the block. john
Could that possibly have been 4931? I have that GTE and it's missing it's engine. I'd like to know where it is.
I am pretty sure that you are correct. Today, I wrote in my notes motor 4931. But when I sat down to make my initial post and looked at the paper the showroom gave me it said motor 4831, so I trusted their paper over my own notes. They have typoed in their advertisement. The showroom is in Genéve, Switzerland. It is called Garage Carugati. It is actually very close to the French border. Good luck. I hope you are able to reconcile. john
John: I keep track of 250 GTEs/330 Americas worldwide. Both 4831 and 4931 are or were GTEs. 4831 has not been heard from since it left Ferrari in 1963. It was built for Onassis according to the Pininfarina records. I do not know if he ever actually took delivery of the car. 4931 was parted out by Tom Shaughnessey in California in 2007 according to Tom. So that engine may well be in the Lusso you say you saw in Switzerland. If you are interested, send me your mailing address and I will send you a free copy of the 250 GTE Newsletter, published quarterly, which keeps track of these cars. Bill Preston [email protected]
Here is 2 pictures of 4667, long time lost, found back last year in a barn in Belgium. ( picture 1 made in the sixties) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The red Lusso you saw in CH is 4563 with engine 4831 in it. At least it was like that about 30 years ago with a well know Ferrari owner in Lyon, France, before he sold it to CH. So that must be the one you saw in CH.
