Interesting perspective on our suburbs in this weekend's National Post: http://www.nationalpost.com/news/Story.html?id=407713
That's total B*ll**** written by some "Queen street" loser. A jealous monkey who is angry that his beloved city is falling down, and cracking at the seams. And for him to see the organization, and healthy growth of the suburbs is annoying him. Toronto is bankrupt.....Toronto is disorganized.....Toronto has high taxes and very LITTLE services....Public transit sucks (they haven't extended the subway in 30 years). The public workers are striking every week, crime is rising, Toronto is in real rough shape, in a 'recession' if I may suggest. Homes are way overpriced, and way over taxed..with very little in return. Yes, they are building condos everywhere, but has anyone noticed that they haven't been building any new office towers, for people to work?? Yes, something is wrong with your city and its getting worse by the month. Homes, and taxes in Vaughan are affordable, and the local municipal government is doing an even job at keeping things under control. Let me add that Mississauga is actually the 'poster child' for suburban growth. Thanks to Hazel McCallion and other city planners, Mississauga is one of the most successful cities in Canada to live and work.
Lucas, you're not an economist; I have no idea how you'd come up with the notion that Toronto would be in a recession, while out there is not. The real and intellectual capital remain in the city, not in 905. Will Alsop's comments in the article remind me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TboJUxTIaC4
B-Mak...I am being the devil's advocate in this argument. If you mean 'intellectual property' as in banking and finance industries...yes it remains in the city. But the fact is, technology, resources, packaging, electronics, and automotive industries are scattered outside of the city. These industries are what is helping to drive the GTA economy along with the 'Bay st' businesses, you cannot argue that. And next year, when Bay St heads to the sh*thouse, it will be the rest of the GTA (mississauga, vaughan, markham) that will successfully carry the burden of the GTA. Ontario as a province is in a near-recession. Growth of our province will be .5 - 1% this year....terrible considering the average Canadian provincial growth should be in the 2-4% range. Back to our original argument.........Toronto is suffering at the hands of the government, local and provincial. Lack of funding, care and respect, and bad municipal management has led this city into the dumps. Property and 'land transfer' tax are rising yearly, while services and support are shrinking. The cities schools are crap, not only are the buildings in decrepid condition, but the students and test results in the city core are at a provincial low. (This is a fact...while test scores in the suburbs are much higher). Lets not even get started about public transit........bleccch. They are building 25 new condo towers every year in the city, without increasing public transportation, or services. And lets not mention the real-estate $ drop which will happen after no-one will occupy those units.
It might be Eagles Nest....I know last years Foo Sick Kids rally, and a few other FoO events are held there. Although its in Richmond Hill, (Major Mackenzie/Dufferin) it might be considered Markham.
An 84 400i rolled into town on Sunday & of course I chased him down to the marina and pulled him over like I was a cop. He is in the process or restoring it and has the engine & tranny to spec, finished off with a brand new tubi exhaust front to rear. It sounds terrific. He's from Leamington and I prompted him to check out Fchat as he wasn't aware of it. Oh by the way, his neighbour just bought a new 430!! Is this a great country or what ?! His name is Vito and let me take a few photos. Paint is original, however he wants to repaint it red. The interior is tan. Thinking of how I missed driving my 308, I pulled it out today. Started right up as if it was only sitting for a week. Took it for a nice cruise. Happy to report no issues as yet. Tomorrow will bring fresh oil and a complete check up. Good looking car; the color suits it. That isn't one you would paint red though. Nice to see a rare Ferrari up here, thanks. CH
