Happily, the 348 began a new era for Ferrari road cars and at its time the 348 had the title of ”the finest sports car of the 20th century”. The 348 was an entirely new car in every sense, except for its sense of legendary fun. The 348 marked a new style for a small Ferrari as well as a clean sheet of paper. Pininfarina had a very different chassis to cover. The 348 was styled for efficiency and ease of use with inspiration drawn from the Ferrari F40 and the Testarossa.

The F40 influence was immediately apparent from the front, where the shape of the hood, bumper cap and angulations are reminiscent of the contemporary racer. The Testarossa influence was seen in the 348's head and tail light assemblies, grill and air damn, and most especially in the side stakes. The exterior styling was a radical departure, though it provided a strong visual connection to the Ferrari Testarossa and the F40.

Perhaps most notably, the 348 was offered in a very wide variety of body styles and trims, making it the most owner-configurable Ferrari of its time. The 348 was a highly personal sports car capable of 5.5-second sprints to 60 mph and a top speed of 170mph.

Point well taken, I do prefer manual steering and the higher end noise of 348 over 355 as well as the 3 spoke sporty steering wheel.
As a child a Testarossa was a Ferrari to me, and 348 seemed as an imitation on a 308 platform evern though it was different, its hard to shed that, IMO F355 did just that it, brough everyone back back that Magnum PI and Miami Vice love affair.

In all reality, I live in SF, gay capital of the world, and the only "boy-toys" I see driving F-cars in my town are all rockin' either 360's or 430's, so this argument is virtually moot. I must admit, tho, I have used hair gel on a few occasions, mostly for client parties and what not. Never seen a TRUE hairdresser driving a 355 or 348 in my 28 years in this town, but I'm sure there is at least one!!!

Love all of 'em...308,348,355 and 360. But has anyone not noticed that the steering wheel of the 430 looks like a blow-dryer with more options. Leave the 360 guys alone, at least they didn't pay $100 k more for the 430, just because it has a better transmission.

F355 is the best of all time full stop. case in point, the Bad Boys 2 movie , the Ferrari engine sound was not the Maranello but a 355. They didn't choose a 348 360 430 512TR 550 or 575 or any other model. The glorious 355 was chosen, why because its the best sounding. When fitted with a Tubi or Maranello exhaust together with Hyperflows from Ricambi pure aural delight. The 355 is pure sex on wheels. And not to forget that she handles like she is on rails.
