My 355 LH radaitor fuse keeps blowing everytime I drive for a short while. I replace the fuse and then it blows again. Does anyone know why this is happening?? What is the suggestion from you guys??
You might want to reach down by the radiator and see if the fan will turn by hand. Of course it's easier if you jack up the car and remove the wheel and the fender liner, but it's possible without doing that. You may have picked up some debris, or possibly a critter has dragged some nesting material into that nice warm spot. If the fan won't turn, the drag on the motor will blow the fuse. It's also possible that there is a direct short to ground somewhere in the wiring, which could be fun to trace. Whatever you do, don't imagine that you can fix it by putting in a bigger fuse.
Good points above. Also, clean the radiator relay male pins with a scotchbrite pad, then treat with Stabilant 22a (or just replace with a new relay).
The FNA dealer fix is to replace the fan motor. With age, they seem to draw more current. Two fixes I have seen others use, and both seemed to work with no adverse effects; 1) Install a 40 amp fuse, hard to find them, but they exist. 2) safer, better option is a self resetting 30 amp circuit ATC/ATO breaker. Still hard to find, but easier to find than the 40 amp fuse. http://www.electerm.com/breaker.html top left of page. You want a type III self resetting. I am uncertain if they will fit okay or not in the fuse panel.
In this case, I have seen it work. Apparently with age, the starting current of the fan motors exceed 30amps, causing the fast blow fuse to pop. Ideally, it would be great if they made ATC/ATO fuses in a "slow blow" mode, but they do not. I have seen 40 amp fuses installed with no ill effects...not that I am saying his car won't catch fire if he tries it...so my advice is worth exactly what he paid for it.
