OMG -One of The Worst Crashes I've Ever Seen

This happened a few minutes ago in The Sprint Cup qualifying in Texas.
The driver was Micheal Mcdowell and he walked away.
Thank God for the HANS device and the Safer Barriers. He hit that wall at more than 185mph.

 

Hell ....that was some impact Nick ,so quick a tail flick and he was in the wall..

Great to see him walk from that ..I really dont like that sort of racing though.

 

Oh my, thank God he is ok.

 

I still think the Michael Waltrip at Bristol in 1988 was the worst, but this one is pretty bad.

That Mike Harmon crash was horrific. A few more inches and he would have been hit without any kind of protection around him. Thank God.

And why is it still called NASCAR? It's not an International race, and the cars are nowhere close to being stock cars...

 

Michael McDowell is one of "us," a sports car racer. I'm glad he's ok.

 

I followed his career when he was running the Mazda star series. Mcdowell and Colin Braun would have been ideal candidates for F-1 (with further development), instead they went to Nascar where they could make more money and get more fame . ...What a waste.

 

To paraphrase Schumi, he said something like he would never race stock cars/ Indy cars because they are so much more dangerous than F1. There is no F1 track where you could hit a wall going that fast. Kubica's crash at Canada last year was pretty bad last year too.

Your statement is pretty retarded, F1 hasn't had a fatality in fourteen years which you can't say the same for Nascar or Indy. I dunno if you follow F1 or not but after seeing Kubica's crash in Canada last year I like to think that F1 cars are just as impressive as the COT.

Race cars in general should be designed to break apart on hard impact to dissipate the forces that are being put on the driver. It's a good thing that Nascar now has the safer barriers on the outside of the track to absorb a lot of the impact rather than the concrete walls they had just a few years ago. It was also fortunate that his car was deflected and able to slide and spin down the rest of the track dissipating more of the forces of the deceleration.

It was a brutal crash but it's great to see that he walked away from it and that car technology in all forms of racing has evolved to much to make sure the drivers are that much more protected from injury.

 

Hitting the wall at 190 mph is so gay...

 

That crash looked a lot like Dale Earnhardt's.....thank God the result wasn't the same. It shows the safety advances that have been made since then. The SAFER barrier and the HANS device are both worth their weight in gold.

Zanardi crash was worse....

 

greg moore's crash.....the worst....the end of a very talented driver....RIP.

 

Technology saved him. If that crash would have happened 10 years ago he would have been dead on impact.

There was a truck crash at Daytona some years back that makes this look like a bump in the dark If this happened in an F1 car, the driver would not survive.

I said I would not want to see an F1 car after that kind of wreck, meaning if an F1 car hit a wall exactly like that going 180 MPH + the outcome would not have been as good.

Yes I do follow F1 and I agree that they are impressive, all I was saying is that in this specific type of crash a driver in an F1 car would be in worse shape than that guy.

Kubica's crash while impressive, was different.

 

When I was at the Skippy school, the lead instructor made an interesting comment. He said, "The best racing is in NASCAR. The best driving is in F1."

You shouldn't discount the skills and talents of NASCAR drivers, even for a second. The days of Junior Johnson, "Just press dat pedal on the right, turn left and hang on," are long gone. Imagine driving a car with a jet engine on an oval covered in greased roller bearings. Then imagine understanding the aerodynamics of passing someone under these conditions. Bubba, you don't live in Tobacco Road no mo.
