Seinfelds still looking for a job. How bout Freddy Munoz (Malcom in the Middle)? He races Formula Atlantic.
Leno or Sienfeld would be horrible for this type of thing, I think David Letterman would be better. Screw them all and bring the stig with helmet and all.
What are you talking about? Have you even watched Top Gear? Thats almost 85% of each show is reviewing cars. Last season they reviewed the Fiat 500 Jaguar XF Audi R8 Ferrari 599 Rolls Royce Drop Head Peel P50 Caparo T1 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Civic Type R Alfa 159 BMW M5 Touring Mercedes E63 Wagon Aston Martin DBS (OR DB9S as clarkson put it) Vauxhall VXR8 Daihatsu Materia Ascari A10 BMW M3 Mercedes C63 Audi RS4 See, Im not saying that this American Top Gear has to review a new Camry every week but I'd like it if they reviewed more cars we can get in North America. Out of that list of cars they reviewed in season 10...10 of those cars can be purchased in US/Canada. Star in a Resonably Priced car is junk. It shouldnt make it to the US version.
I, unfortunately, don't think that there is any way that the show could be successful. We have automotive shows here, and they are all terrible for one reason. They simply play to the crowd, and the crowd is their sponsors. No matter what the format of the show, they all end up tainted in one way or another by the lure of sponsorship money. Overhaulin lasted for one year before they started in with "let's make sure this engine runs great by using royal purple," and "no car is finished without ArmorAll." A show along the lines of Top Gear would simply become another medium for that, and sadly I don't think that any network would resist it. The second that they actually spoke their minds about how great a Prius is, or the utter pointlessness of 6ft lifted Ford F350s, they would start having those back office conversations about how they need to try and make everyone happy. The BBC doesn't do that, and that is what makes that show special. It has a freedom that would be nearly impossible to duplicate here in America. I wish it could be all that we hope it would be, but I think that the reality of the situation is far different. Leno had it spot on.
