Agreed WJ. Fantastic event with a huge turnout this year. BTW, what happened that caused all of us paraders to come back in? The announcer seemed really ticked off.
I'm sure there will be a few in-car videos by LoD staff. I tried, but my video camera was dead, and I didn't bring the other battery. My friend brought his, but only recorded our first hour before his went dead. I'll have to see about getting his footage.
What a turnout! I was shocked to see such a wide variety of SuperLegerras below as I peeked down from the balcony. LOL Those SuperLeggeras are something else. There are not words, pictures, nor a single video in the world of which can truly give justice to their ability. In regards to the parade laps, it sounds like it did not start off or end as they planned. I believe it must have gotten too unorganized, uncontrolled, and frustrating for them to continue. That's too bad; it seems that they came out unhappy with the uncontrollable results of last years as well. This makes me wonder if they will continue to do this part in the future.
Thanks to all that came out to the event today. We had over 500 people sign in at the gate. The event is larger every time. With it growing like it has we do have some growing pains. Rides and parade laps are the most challenging. It was the actions of a few that ended the parade laps early. Apex has a five year safety record (no accidents) and we are not going to blow it on parade laps. Until you run a large event like this you do not have much of an understanding of what it takes. Safety will always be first. We will continue to strive to make this a great event. Thanks again to this great community of car focused folks. John Apex
Well, big congrats to you guys for running it. And I agree on the parade laps. It seemed 1 Lambo wasn't listening, someone was trying to enter the laps very late, and an Audi Cabriolet was told to go to the hot pit. Then again, the announcer did say we had around 50 cars wanting to participate. Either way, awesome event guys. Seeing the only Pearl White Saleen in the world, as well as SP Engineering's GT made it even better. Look forward to your next meet Apex.
I took over 100 photos & I'm current in the process editing most of them, here's a sample until the photobucket link is up. Cool pictures. LOL, you must have been sitting right next to me at the pits. I need to buy a Ferrarichat shirt and wear it next time. Sometimes you just don't know who is who. . . .
Crap... why did I have to go and miss out on this event?! I saw that verde ithaca Gallardo at Chips on Lover's Lane today... but it wasn't on the track showing off like it probably was there!
what happened was this: Once I got everyone on track (a big challenge given the numbers), and things were were running fine, two cars showed up late (probably 12:30) or so and proceeded through the grid onto the hot pit and then into traffic! They got by me as I had my back to grid while monitoring the track from pit wall. They had missed all the instruction and did not have their radios on, so I could not communicate with them. I was livid and frankly appalled that ANYONE would just drive onto a race track without any OK or clearance from anyone and I confirmed they had spoken with no one and took it upon themselves to drive out on track. If I had more time I would have take measures to eject them from the event or perhaps inform everyone else why they did not get to drive for as long as I planned and point to the culprits. Growing pains and the result of me letting all staff and workers have a break for lunch, so I was alone at grid. Otherwise, the event went really well and was the best and largest ever, thanks again to the folks at Lamborghini Dallas and Boardwalk Auto Group.
I had a great time, it gets better each year! I wish my car didn't have a misfire for the first 2 session, but we fixed it during lunch and it was great on the last 2 sessions. I've never seen so many cars lined up for the parade laps before. The later start time is much better. 9 am is a lot easier than the 8 am start time. One question though for my car. The car is front wheel drive and the rear tires don't wear very quickly so I have reused them from the previous events(I swap front to rear when possible), but everytime in the first few laps of a new day the car's rear slides everywhere, any advice to reduce this in the beginning? Thanks, Nicola
I'm no racing expert, but I can offer years of reading... The newest tires are supposed to be on the rear no matter the drivetrain. You can control worn tires on the front, but worn tires on the rear are completely unpredictable.
