1. Senna and Prost drove together at McLaren, not Williams 2. In the two years that they were teammates, they won 2 WDCs, 2 WCCs, and 25 out of 32 GPs. I'd say that was a successful pairing by any standard.
Would that be the same Ferrari upper management who denied signing Kimi? Or the same upper management who said Rubens had a contract for 2006? Methinks they doth protest too much. Sounds to me like Alonso is already signed.
Ferrari doesn't seem to want 2 guys that can win championships. They want one guy who can win championships, and one guy who can win races. If that racer winner happens to be a championship winner then so be it... but its unlikely that would happen. I don't see why they would want it any other way. It gives them some consistent show in the constructors championship, and drivers championship without the drivers getting too mad with each other. This is just my opinion.. I could be entirely wrong.
Ron, what Michael says about Alonso being or not being signed doesn't mean squat, he's gonna say what they tell him to say. If they don't want to announce it now as to not de-stabilise the team, fair enough, but if Luca wants him, he'll get him. I wouldn't put too much into what anyone says about the subject right now because it's simply too early in the year.
Really? I never realized that. I thought all of those other guys running around the garage were just for show. Sounds like the driver's contribution equates to slightly more than that of the grid girls. Aside from tires and some aerodynamics how much changed in Renault's effort between 2006 and 2007? The driver's line-up sure changed. By the end of 2007 Renault's car was good enough to put their #2 driver on the podium. IMO having a WDC 1 year removed counts for a little more than 1%. Was MS "just the driver" for Ferrari? I understand he wasn't the only factor working toward the championship, but come on! I am no Alonso lover, but the guy can drive -- no question. I am certain he has more to contribute than merely steering the car.

But we could not have delivered the car he needed, and so the decision would have been wrong. "What we like to do is take one step whilst thinking of the next," he added. Mateschitz's comments indicate not only that Alonso sought to accommodate himself just for a single campaign in 2008, but also that his plans for 2009 were already well advanced. It is currently rumoured that the Spaniard is hoping to line up at Ferrari next year.
There was a story about how Jean Todt had a falling out with Alonso because Alonso backed out on some option they had on him in the past. I don't remember if he was supposed to be a third driver or a second driver but something happened Alonso pissed the Schumacher team (Todt, Brawn, Schumi) off which was the reason alonso could "never" drive for Ferrari. As other have stated though Luca does what he wants and if you think about Schumacher leaving all the rumors around that, combined with Todt and Brawn gone, all in the last two years it becomes evident that anything can and will happen. Luca does what he wants and I think if Ferrari needs another top driver Alonso will be it. As far as in the next year or two I think that depends largely on Kimi and his decision to remain in f1. I definitely think Kimi will retire at Ferrari so until that happens I guess Alonso will never drive at Ferrari. After Kimi though you gotta pickup Alonso, he is too good at developing cars and has proven to be able to win under pressure, from the back of the pack, ect. I don't doubt Ferrari will pick one of the next gen young drivers though to have someone ready after Alonso burns out or retires.
