Hi there, Just read an article on Daily Sportscar about the Strakka Racing Team. Apparently at the Goldtrack trackday event last Thursday at Silverstone they were treating potential sponsors to a few laps around the track in a rather special Ferrari. The car was driven by Peter Hardman a well know racing driver who has driven some pretty special cars in his time. Here is a section from the article: - "Almost everyone at the track seemed to understand the significance of this car except silly old me .. This was Ferraris development car for the F40, and only five were ever made, only three of which still exist. 650 bhp and 940 kg certainly made for a very interesting ride around the Grand Prix circuit: depending on gear ratios, 225 mph was allegedly possible from this most powerful variant of the 288 GTO Evo. On a crowded track, Peter Hardman did get it into top gear on the Hangar Straight, and when space allowed, gave the Ed. a wonderful taster of a wonderful machine" Some pics are attached below (copyright Daily Sportscar). Does anyone know the history of this particular car, I have only ever seen one 288 GTO Evo before and it was not this car. Unless the wheels and front winglets have been added since September 2007. There are still 5 of them, and I know where they all are! That particular car belongs to a well-known collector, and has had the bigger wheels and front winglets for quite a while. The standard 16" wheels are very difficult to get tyres for these days, and not many of the 5 retain these wheels............
They made 6, and one of them crashed, that is if I'm not mistaken And to see pics of this rare car is always a treat, love the 3rd shot
awesome looking from the hood back- but man that front clip is not so pretty - Ferrari seemed to agree as the F40 looks distinctly different up front
# 50253 (number 1 of 6, originally a 288 GTO prototype and official press photo car, later converted to GTO Evoluzione) # 70167 (number 3 of 6, originally supplied to Pierre Bardinon in France) # 70205 (number 4 of 6) # 79887 (number 2 of 6, the car in the images here, owned in the UK) # 79888 (number 5 of 6, in the long time ownership of Jacques Swaters, now in the UK) # 79889 (number 6 of 6) Paul
Do you think they had a cooling issue with the engine compartment (count the number of vents) Looks like more vents than the f40?
So no more visits to Italy for you if you don't want to end up in jail as the evil mastermind behind the drug dea...ehm, Ferrari faking rings
