Germany has at last count 90,000, yes boys and girls that number is correct, 90,000 different beers.

Then we add in the 3 or 4 beers from the rest of the world and combine that with Germanys total and I dare to bet that not a person here has had a drink of the BEST beer of all..... not even me.

But I must say after 18+ years I have put a good dent in that 90,000 number of beers. German or Old Eastern German (Read: now Czech Rep) beers are simply the best ...... hands-down. :)

    Mark

P.S. The Coors Brewery is just 5 miles due west from my parents house so I grew up on that.

My all-expense-paid 3 year vacation in Germany was a beer drinker's delight. Yes, every town has its own brewery, so any time you travel you are drinking a different beer. And like music, beer is a matter of taste. Weissbiers are popular but I can't stand them. That doesn't mean they are bad. I like a good Pilsner with lots of hops. Many people, Mrs Dubai included, find them too bitter. That's OK, more for me!

My brother-in-law took me to a CAMRA (CAMpaign for Real Ale) event in England a few years back. Not to my taste, but interesting and fun.

Here in Dubai the variety is good, if you go to the hole in the wall in Umm Al Quwain instead of the legal shops in Dubai. You also get your booze half price. Grolsch was my favorite for years but they just raised the price from $3.19/6 to $4.52/6 so I am trying some new ones. When I go out I always drink Kilkenny, which is universally available here, but I have never seen it in England. It's an Irish cream ale made by the Guinness people, but less bitter and less filling. I can't drink more than one Guinness.

Right now I'm drinking Kronenbourg 1664 (Seize Cent Soixante Quatre) which is not as good as I remembered it. Oh well, the hunt is half the fun. In Germany I actually kept a journal rating the various offerings. I called it "Beer Diary." :D

Staropramen was my favorite when I was studying in Prague. They must have started importing it in the past few years because a distributor near me carries it now. Another good one that is similar to Staropramen in Zywiec, from Poland.
There is no one best beer. Each person has their own preferences, and it depends on what you are in the mood for.

Have you tried it with Champagne and Gunness. I believe this is a traditional black velvet (Scot/irish celebration drink).

As far as the best beer, it is of course subjective.

    Currently on tap I have:
    1.) Sam Adams White Ale
    2.) Troegs Nugget Nectar

    Frequently on tap:
    Magic Hat #9
    Sly Fox (local brewery)
    Victory Hop Devil (local brewery)

    Everyday drinker:
    Yuengling Lager..

    When in Mexico:
Negro Modello or Cuervo Anejo and Fresca (I know it is not a beer, but a great drinker nonetheless)

i too have enjoyed zywiec. i like the resinous finish somewhat reminesent of retsina. i think it's lighter than the starporamen which is a bit lighter than pilsner urquell. it's the water that makes all czech beers so good.

the one I had must've been decent then. The hard part is thinking of it as a beer, when the alcohol content is more that of a liquor.

I think I had the Dogfish Head 90 minute. It's an IPA, right? It was alright, very distinct strong taste to it, spicy?

I have to say i've had 90% of your list and love them all.. although a keg of the Dogfish head got a bit old after a while. Love the goose island. I stole a glass when i lived out there that says "drink local..." it is my favorite glass.

    Yes it's an IPA...

Not sure if I'd consider it spicy but it does definitely have a strong flavor. It does go well with spicy foods, though :)

I happen to really like this one. Its an 'American Strong Ale.' Stone Brewing Co. just makes really damn good beer in general. But this one always needs a mention ;)

I just got myself some of their 'Russian Imperial Stout' 2008 limited release and I'm contemplating just how much of it I can get away with buying and not get the strange looks from my mates when half the fridge is full of pint bottles of beer.

Well, as Im from Mexico I love drinking
Corona, Montejo, Leon... and sometimes Sol, Negra Modelo, etc...
International beers I really enjoy drinking canadian beers such as..
CANADIAN and MOLSON EXPORT!!.. This one is really cool!!!
I had to pay 6CAN for a Corona while in Mexico usually I pay no more than 1.2 CAN
at the supermarket, or less than 3.5CAN at the bar..
    Anyways,
"Corona.. La cerveza mexicana de mayor venta en México y el mundo."
    La Cerveza es CORONA! :p

Arrogant Bastard will give you one hell of a buzz. I don't care for it much though. Too much of a chocolate flavor.

Anyone had Chimay? I had a blue top a couple of weeks ago and thought it was good, although pricey at ~$7.00/bottle.
