It's not stock for sure but with these rare cars, you take 'em as they come.

Used to live in Austin, TX in the 80's!

You would not even recognize it as the same city today! SUCKS! I say, if you have not lived here at least 10 and prefer 20 years then GO HOME! Traffic is a REAL mess here now! Used to be able to get out of town onto some fun roads pretty quickly...not any more!

Going to the track in the morning! YEA! Taking the race car and the '92. Will be driving the GT car unless it becomes uncooperative. It has proven reliable if not fast, so I suspect I will get some more seat time in the GT car... Will let you know later...

Great time at the track today. The GT car ran FLAWLESSLY! I was the fastest guy on track by about 2 sec a lap, but no one else was driving a fully prepared race car on slicks either! I probably should have been 10 sec a lap quicker than anyone there... Ha, Ha! You can blame that on the driver for sure! Anyway, if you guys ever get a chance to drive at Harris Hill Road raceway in San Marcos, TX TAKE IT! Damn fine track! Run of is flat and plentiful should you make a mistake, asphalt is flawless, some really nice elevation changes, and some GREAT corners. A real flowing track that is not all that fast, but fast enough to be fun.

I LOVE driving this car. It is so progress and predictable under hard braking. You can TOTALLY drive the rear end going into and coming out of corners when the tires are decent (I have had some REALLY worn front and rears at different times that caused problems w/ the handling) WOW! Oh, I get these 16" X 12" slicks for between $60 and $75 each too! The car can run on a set for about 2 weekends it looks like too...maybe more than that! I was only getting 6 sessions out of the fronts on my S4! Those were R compounds that cost $135+ EACH! I could get 3-4 WEEKENDS out of rears though... The GT car is much better balanced front to rear on tire wear, and probably cost much less to buy tires and seems like brakes too for!

Anyway, every time I go to the track I am reminded of how dang FUN it is and how much I miss it when I have been away for awhile! If any of you reading this have not taken your car (and I mean ANY CAR...Honda Civic, Hyundai Tiburon, even a freaking Ford F150 pick-up, yes, I HAVE seen a pick up truck at a DE!) then get your butts to the next DE you can sign up for and learn to drive! You will LOVE IT!!! Until you have a few weekends under your belt (if you are driving a Porsche) you won't even be working the car hard enough for it to notice. You won't use up all your brakes OR your tires... GOOD TIMES ARE WAITING FOR YOU!

Hope to have some pics from todays event that I can share with you all soon!

Yuck at the orange on silver... they just seem to clash. Then to make it worse, yellow brake callipers.

Can you get a GT3RS with just silver on black wheels and black letters?

Well you can't order a 997 GT3/RS any longer. It wasn't an official colour scheme but there were a few built.

James, beautiful pic of your race Shark!! That's what I call the unfair advantage! I'll probably have a hard time trying to stick with you LOL!!

Tracking is so much fun!! I love it and I took my RS to the track the very second day after I got it and had so much fun in it! I don't have any action shots but here's a couple of pics with it parked on the Paddock area.

    Khalid,

Great looking car! You would pass me so fast it would make my head spin! I have a stock 4.5L motor in that car. It makes about 230HP and it weighs 2680lbs w/ 1/3rd of a tank of gas! Your RS would eat me for lunch, in fact my car would not even be a whole meal! Not to mention the GT3's, GT3 RS's, and GT3 Cup cars are SOOOO freaking easy to drive fast, I would not even have a chance. I'd just be trying to stay out of your way! Way to use the car like it was meant to be used! Track time is so much fun.

The track I drove yesterday was really nice. Not very fast, but some really great corners and pretty decent elevation changes too! Lots of fun.

You know what it really comes down to is the driver. I have been doing track events for 10 years now and I have seen REALLY nice, super hot, super fast cars getting smoked by Miata's because the driver was just that much better. Kind of depends on the track though. A tight track will favor a Miata or an Elise where a wide open track will favor the high HP cars. The 928's do better on the latter track type. My GT car with its super wide front end and tires actually does pretty well on both venues. Fun car!

What track do you normally visit Khalid? I could not tell from the pic, but it looked like a really full on pro set up there, seeing where you are from, I would guess that is the GP circuit in Dubai, is that right?? Where the Bahrain GP is held, or am I getting my mid east geography wrong here???

    Best,
    James

LOL yeah! It's the BIC in Bahrain where the F1 is held. Dubai is in a different country alltogther.:) The facilities are World-Class and the track is pretty gripy but it's brake intesive so if your brakes are not up tp par, they're toast!

The first picture was when me and a friend, Orange RS behind mine, crashed the Bike Day and had the track all to ourselves between the Bikes rest stops. Fun day!! The second one was three weeks ago when the Porsche Driving school came to visit and invited all of us Porsche owners who track to be instructed by them.

Here's the website for the track. www.bahraingp.com and as you can see, it can be run in different configurations with my favroite being a smaller, much more technical ClubSport configuration with pretty nice elevation changes! The regular F1 configuartion is more dependent on brute horsepower with long straights and I hate that LOL Gets boring after a while!

Just to keep the pictures coming here's one featuring Porsche Super Cups racing during last years's F1 against the backdrop of the famous VIP Tower!

Yea, I just proved how stupid I am. Always best to keep your mouth shut (or quit typing in this case) so people just WONDER how stupid you are instead I just rolled right on through it and PROVED as much! DUH!
