Hi Wim, Thank you for the links. Do you happen to have the chassis no of your friend's S3? Philippe www.lamborghinimiura.com
The Espada was styled after the Marzal (based on a modified Miura chassis, late 1966 and presented at Geneva 1967) and mostly the Bertone Pirana or Pirahna (?) (show car based on the Jaguar E-type, London 1967). The first Espada prototype, the one with gullwing doors, lacked of the elegance of the first two and of the final design, presented at Geneva 1968. This blue bomb shell is at Gary Bobileff's. Here's an inside tip: the Miura Spyder was this same color before conversion to ZN75 and its nasty green. It is being restored back to this blue color with large metal flake (thank goodness for originality's sake, I am very happy to see it returned to the color). Alberto
Hey John, I don't know if you know this, but I came within a hair of buying that silver Espada you just bought (bought something more suitable to use as a daily driver). I saw it at Gary's this past week. It looks fantastic! Much improved over what it was when I was ready to pull the trigger. I love the idea of putting the second condensor unit in the back and how it was executed. I will have to keep that idea in mind for when I do end up buying it. Your Miura looks great too (still). Good luck with it. If you ever decide to sell it, please contact me. Alberto
Hi Philippe, Yes, see below. It's original colour was that fabulous metallic green. And it was on german license plates. My friend decided he had seen enough of the green and painted it in an Alfa Romeo metallic blue, which suits the car perfectly. He also put it on dutch license plates, because of tax advantages. The data: Espada S3 Chassis #9470 Engine #41307 This series III Espada carries registration BOR KY988. << Not anymore, see above.
Same color? What is that based on? I kind of doubt that. Have you looked at the paint on that car? It's not the normal and typically crappy Lamborghini paint job from that era. It's very thick and from what I could observe very durable. There were precious few stone chips and that car was driven. Still, it's possible that it got re-painted but in talking with the second owner's grandaughter and looking at all the available documentation as well as observations of the interiors of doors it didn't look like it. I believe that the original paint was "purported" to have been selected/supplied by the original owner. Bob S.
YES i searched for pics of this very car since years! TKS YOU i have heard there was an espada with a tuned DD 5.2 liter 24 V engine and could not find pics anywhere is it correct that this car is really fast and runs great? have you more of it? engine pics? tks you again for sharing
I've seen the paint on the Espada. I have also seen the paint on the Spyder. They found a fair amount of it underneath a panel cover. It is impossible to tell if they are exactly the same (fading, potential repaint, etc), but the shades are very similar and both have the heavy metalic flake. Unless you put the cars side by side, I suspect you won't be able to tell the difference (well, other than the fact that the Sypder is getting a ground up restoration with Pebble Beach quality repaint, etc.) No, pictures, sorry. They installed a rectangular condenser in the back storage area running the lines to the front. They are going to make a cover for it so it looks factory, including factory Lamborghini vents as I understand it. Great idea. Best, Alberto
Very interersting Alberto. If you get another chance to see that Espada with the AC system take some pics? Please. Maybe I should call Gary. My car went through his shop just before I picked it up in the San Diego area. I spoke with a guy here in the NYC area who had an Espada on which he started this exact conversion process but sold the car (locally) before he finished it. I wonder if it's the same car? There's not a lot of room back there to hide this though. It's kind of a better version of the original S1 AC system that had the evaporators on each side of the car in the rear seat area. If you looked at the paint on the s1 Moon Roof Espada the flake was so coarse that on edges in some areas it didn't lay flat. Other than the very unfortunate hood damage it really didn't need to be redone. I guess it's getting everything now? Egads what a bill that will be. Bob S.
Hi Emilio, This is all I really know about it, a post from Jack Riddell who drove it a few years ago: >>The black Espada James got from me had a near-perfect original engine when I sold it. James put a little bit of work into the engine (I think that included cams) but he reasoned that the car was still underpowered. And during one of our Death Valley runs, James didn't allow the engine sufficient warmup and ran it at high speed/rpms and it broke. He was going to fix the engine until Filippo told him a Countach QV engine would fit nicely into the car. The rest, as they say, is history. James has since gone a few steps further and turned the car over to a tuning specialist in North Carolina (who also is working on Jame's F40) and I was told he had guaranteed about 50 additional horsepower for the Espada. I will get a chance to drive the car when it is finished so I can do a writeup at that time. I have driven the car with the QV engine and it is pretty amazing. I don't know the 0 -60 time or power figures, but it really hauls butt~! << Fred

Strong prices, a lot of cars in the 40000 and 50000 Euros. Philippe www.lamborghinimiura.com
Where is a fully restored - by a well known address - Espada Series 1 for sale ? I live in Switzerland but I would buy abroad as well.
The best S1-Espade I`ve ever seen was the car Mr. Instinsky from Stuttgart, Germany, owned and restored to perfection. This car was sold by him little later. Not sure if its with VW or a private person today! That dark-blue car was a masterpiece! Ciao! Walter
#7323 is currently for sale in the Netherlands (http://www.peetersexclusivecars.com). With an asking price of 62.500 euro not the cheapest one but I think the price is justified. Regards, Kevin
http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/magazine/3500.asp?id=13729 Did you see this one? (sorry if repost) NOT the happiest color for an Espada I would say... Marc
Philippe you must have good traction control in your right ankle! I must say that I drove a Miura SV recently, which involved driving it briefly in the snow (no salt) and I was amazed at how cooperative it was...
Looks almost the same as the (custom made) system on my mate's Espada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbliqIPpU5Q
I don't drive my car in the snow. That day the road was real dry and clean, a nice day for a little warm up and going to the local service station and put benzina in the tanks. Only snow in my parkway, we did get a LOT this winter! Philippe www.lamborghinimiura.com
I took this photo in front of Tonino's Lamborghini museo. The interior of this RHD car is in the first prototype also in this same museo. Philippe www.lamborghinimiura.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
