Found these on another forum. Guy apparently saw it in a parking lot "at Tyson's corner in VA". Anyone know if this is a real car or replica? Here's his original post:

"Just wanted to share this with you all. I spotted this a while ago in the valet lot at Tyson's Corner in VA. I was so mad I didn't have a camera with me, so all I got are crappy cell phone pics. I know they are unbelievably rare and valuable, and I know there are some really good replicas out there, so I wasn't sure if it was an original or not.

If it is a replica, someone did a very very outstanding job. The car was spotless, paint looked absolutely flawless, and the interior looked like an orignal 250 gto down to the quilted stitching and roll bar. Car had South Carolina historic plates."

    Not the real thing.

Borrowing from a post by neilmac from a previous and similar thread where someone asked "How can you tell it's not real?":

I just tried that and it doesn't work. I looked at three authentic GTO's and none of them have this feature. ON #5111, the door window is lower than the top of the windshield. Two others had varying degrees of mismatch. I don't think this is a reliable way to differentiate real from fake GTO's

This is not true; it drops but it doesn't drop that much. On most replicas it drops too much. Best wishes, Kare

Color is pretty bad, all thee windows are wrong and the line fron the top of the doors to the rear fenders is way off. Just one man's opinion. tongascrew

I'll defer to the experts on what it is, but I do think it's one of the better looking replicas I've seen.

Might have been built on an old donor as it appears suspiciously like it might have "Antique Auto" plates like my car:

Addendum; didn't read the first post; it does indeed have an Antique license plate.

Oh, BTW, with that tag they collect ZERO property tax each year! (My 2001 Lexus by comparison (value $20,000) cost me ~$400 per year in county taxes; Dino cost ZERO. there must have been a car guy in the SC legislature.)

I too would appreciate a visual example of these "features" that differentiate real from replica GTO's. Verbal descriptions are often too vague to have any meaning. A side by side photographic comparison showing why replicas differ from the real ones.

This car will be on a run and Ferrari event here in DC on Sunday, I have been told by FOW and others this is the real deal! I will report back tomorrow with more pics and info.
Not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

Its not a GTO, is a cut up 250GTE. It is very sad to see an important Ferrari bastardized to make something its not. Why don't guys start with an old Corvette or a 240 Z when they want a fakedo, they could just as easily get to the same end and not kill a valuable Ferrari in the process.

Car is a replica built from a donor Fcar. I was part of a run group yesterday that included this car. I had the pleasure of driving behind/alongside (and almost up the backside of!!!) this car and got to meet and have lunch with the owner. We got to talking and had a good laugh about how the drive went. What a great guy! According to him it was built up from a donor '59 "250 GTC" which I assumed to be a '59 PF Coupe.

I'm no expert and don't want to start any "tribute vs. butchering?" flame wars, but from my vantage point yesterday, this car looked, smelled, sounded like the real deal. There's no question in my mind however, that the current owner's enthusiasm for the marque is the real deal. Good on him for coming out and mixing it up with other "more common" Ferraris!

More pics of the event are in the MAR section: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193725

If it came from a PF Coupe, then, to my eye, it is probably s/n 1273, a series one car; one of 353 PF Coupes produced by Ferrari

I immediately thought it looked like a Greg Jones replica. I wonder if it is 1273GT or something else...

Surely FoW knows this was a replica. Esp. since they had a real one, 3445, in their showroom not too long ago . . .
