I JUST BOUGHT A 85 308 QV. The Interior is flawless but needs a good detailing. My question is -What is a good way or product to clean the leather -What is a good way or product to clean the carpets. - What is a good way or product to clean the dash and door panels. - What is a good wax that isn't to harmful for the finish. Or should I just polish it. Massimo
Lexol leather cleaner (orange bottle)with a damp cloth. Just keep working in the cleaner and gently rub it. Let the cleaner do the work and don't rub too hard. Follow with lexol conditioner (brown bottle). The carpets you can hit with spot shot from home depot for the bad areas and the rest just work with some simple green. Is it original paint? A good catch all no harm done cleaner wax is Mother's cleaner wax then follow with the pure carnuba. If you've had experience with the procedure i like to wetsand and then do a four stage buff, polish, glaze and wax but that's done with a high speed followed by a 20lb. oribital and four different buffing pads at various speeds.
Lexol for leather and door panels. They make a cleaner but unless the seats, panels and dash are really dirty then you don't need it. The dash is probably vinyl and if so Lexol makes a good vinyl dressing. Carpets, use any good cleaner from the grocery store if not real dirty. I use a foam, work it in, let dry and vaccum. Exterior, I clay it first (mothers or others have a good clay product). I prefer Meguires NXT synthetic way to carnuba. Everyone has different opinions on wax but I find that NXT really gives a deep "look-though" shine that lasts better than carnuba. Lots of threads on this site about all of this and even more opinions.
I prefer leatherique products for leather care http://www.leatherique.com/ and have become a big fan of Zaino exterior products, forsaking Mothers/Mequires, and all other brands some years ago when I bought my first black car, a Porsche 911 (996). http://www.zainostore.com/ One neat thing about Zaino is that it is NOT wax and can be applied/removed in direct sun.
Although this does not do a whole bunch on the interior leather treatment I find it very informative on all the other points of detailing. http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-details-before-after/115620-5-days-1-ferrari-150-pictures-la-bella-firma-bella-macchina.html I use Leatherique. With my crema colored leather I find that really slobbering on the Rejuvenator Oil and aggresively rubbing it into the leather until the dirt liquifies. I follow this with Pristine Clean using an old toothbrush. My stiching is an off white that the Pristine Clean is not doing an adequate job on. Recently by talking with Leatherique thay suggested using their Prepping Agent diluted 1:1 with water and use a toothbrush. I have not started this step yet. Jeff
