I cant wait to see your rally photos.. I noticed you took several scans..I was too busy hanging on to the steering wheel to take any photos.. Thanks for the comments and it was nice chatting with you again. My suggestions if you are looking for a new camera..Nikon D300, 18-200mm and sb800.. A great set up.. and if you have a few more dollars to spend, the 24-70mm 2.8 is superb.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
About cameras I bought a Nikon D60 with the Nikkor 18-135mm lens, next am looking at a CPL filter, and an SB-400 flash...Came out pretty cheap too (camera and lens only) It only cost me about 700 bucks after getting paid at my job at AutoSport. Now am upgrading from the old Canon S2 IS Point and Shoot and am 14 so am not loaded to buy a D300 and all those lenses/flashes. So am happy with the D60 since it has a few features from your D300 and the new D3. Anyway great pics with the D300, let me ask you why do you like taking pics with fill flash every time, I get nice results with no flash but that's because I don't wanna drain the battery's...I understand you get more contrast and eliminate those bad shadows but I see no need for flash when I shoot.
a few more... lets start out with a traffic jam.. BTW the yellow enzo, according to the owner, only about 5 exists with enzo's full signature and this was the last delivery to the US..As I pictured below, the crew that worked on it, signed the inside of the bonnet ...in yellow of course.. Last photo was of a stop for the rally... Nice Pics! One thing, have you ever tried going beyond the auto mode on the D40? That camera can produce great results with a little tweaking in white balance, saturation, sharpness and stuff like that. Your next step would be trying the "P" mode and changing all the options you can change to get the right picture.
Fully understand.. Please follow me on this long post... There is one technique that will improve your photography 10 fold. FILLFLASH... Batteries are cheap.. bad digital photos will last you a lifetime...(rechargeables work too) Follow me for a minute..Very sunny day, like Saturday..you are taking photos of people and cars..its sunny, you dont need a flash right???? ..very wrong.. Go out in the sun, take a friend or significant other, and take your car.. now look at you friend and do you see shadows from the sun under the yes, nose, chin and specially if they are wearing a hat.. Fillflash will bring out the colors in that situation.. Now, look at the car, there is certainly enough ligth to take a proper exposure but if you look more critically, can you see the shadows of the air intakes, under the car, mirrors, etc.. Again, Fillflash will help with that... There is NO reason why NOT to have your flash on your camera 24/7 (other than convenience) Fillflash will completely change the way you look at your photography.. Let me show you what I mean..I hope that Simon does not mind me using him as an example.. Scan 1 and 2. Here is Simon and his family (car included ) taken with the same camera and same position but I forgot to turn on the flash on the first photo... See the darkness of his and her face and the shadows.. By the second picture, I had set up two wireless SB800 to fire at 45degress to Simons face..The drop shadow under his chin is gone and you can now even see the wrinkles in his shirt!!! Color is more even... I hope that you can see the difference.. Lastly, look at Rob and Lussurias pict..(last scan) The sun is hitting the back of their heads.. a little fill in flash will add color and bring out details that would otherwise remain in the dark, like Lussurias eye color..and I am sure that Rob wants us all to see those ribs covering his intake on his TR.. but the negative is that you might see some reflection such as in Robs sunglasses.. Hope that this was not too boring... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
hahahaha! yes i have gone beyond the auto mode. i have played with it quite a bit with alot of other things like flowers and things when i get some free time. my next venture will be the automobile world~
Yeah I had noticed how well the portraits come out, I always use flash for portraits tho since its a must with the shadows on the faces. When I get an SB-400 or something faster/further reach I will defiantly experiment fill flash on cars. Thanks for the explanation.
Even today with my pocket digital, I leave the flash on even on the sunniest of days. Your fill flash points are "spot" on. Back in the day when I was shooting professionally, just prior to the invention of the automobile, I was the only one with a flash in the pits. Discovered the benefits by accident, but a driver's face while wearing a helmet suddenly was visible with a fill flash. Thanks for your input...and yes, I also do the same for the couple of point and shoot that I use... the flash is always on...
I counted about 16 cars that had Michael Fux name on it..including the red enzo and F1 car..and yes a few...yellow and yellow and white on white.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
