put #21181 down, I'll try to make it.
SOOOO, what better than watching 'Bama play from a FERRARI GATHERING!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm sure we can scrape up a TV somewhere!) JIM
the wife says she'd like to go to memphis so i guess i'm in. #55417. checked out sams town site. the room price for the weekend was like $350. so if we get a break it should be affordable. golf could be fun, track day.. maybe if i trailer the car. it's a long walk home. 430 miles... yow. i'd better pack a lunch.
Hey Tatcat, Is your hotrod an 85 308 GTS or GTB? If it's a GTS, can you send me a photo? I'm maintaining an information log of all '85 GTS cars out there. I've attached a late photo of my car. Thanks, KevinWi VIN #52859 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Count us in #21567. 77 GTB. Easy access to I-65 to travel with anyone coming from the north. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've left voicemail to find out if the track has availability on Saturday Oct 11th. If they do, the rate is $3500 rental, plus they probably require liability coverage from an insurance company like K&K, which will add at least $1000. The roadcourse track is described at www.memphismorosportspark.com as being 1.77 miles long, but from the drawing below, it's NOT what we'd consider a typical roadcourse... it appears to be mostly oval with a very long front straight, and just one short section of "s-curves". Anybody here been on that track... and what did you think? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Found some in-car video at YouTube... I see why FCA doesn't do track events there... it's a speed track, not a handling track, and most of us prefer lots of turns and high-g's. BUT... it is apparently the only track in the area, so if we want a track experience in/near Memphis, it is likely your only option unless someone can point me to another alternative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmobWbZHWS4 Another diagram, this one is just the roadcourse, so it makes the route more obvious: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just like a few others who have posted, if I can get some work done before then to give me a higher level of road worthy comfort I will be there. 1985 308 GTS QV Euro 52073. Quite frankly this is an event that I need to do everything I can to make. Will there be an area to park motor homes?
Mike C, this list of US tracks may reveal something in Tn, Mississippi or Arkansas that might work. Lots to chose from but I will have to sort them out later unless you want to dig. Probably a bunch of dirt ovals here but may be a road course. http://www.whowon.com/Tracks.asp Ok, I did poke around some and found a road course 15 miles from Memphis. Only problem is that it closed in 1979. How about setting up an SCCA style Autocross event for the "racers" that come to this in lieu of a high speed track day at MMSP?
We have discussed this only in passing. I like the idea. Once we confirm the Casino, we will approach them about this. I will also check on the Motorhome question. My guess is "yes" since Casino's tend to accomodate them for their regulars... JIM
I like that idea... but one of the Memphis "locals" will have to come up with the route; I live too many hours away and you need someone who really knows the area.
Looking at the layout of the course I counted 12 turns. On a 1.77 mile track that averages a turn every .148 miles. Could be more fun than we think....
Often those little infield roads can be used to make the track a lot curvier and more technical and/or more slow. If not, some well placed cones along that straightaway can make things much more interesting.
Just curious... Anybody thought about making this a charity event? Seems it would be pretty nice for the 308 group to donate a nice check to either a local charity or a national.
We have and that is still in discussion although it starts to get a little complicated with the rules. JIM
When did this happen?? Guys, i would love to come down, but the pizza biz only gives me a couple of weeks off. And those aren't the weeks.
