I don't know that the prices of 348s have fallen a dime. I bought one on the cheap, but with a fresh 30K, for $42K 4 years ago. Then I bought Old Yeller for $36K about 2 years ago. Both were great deals in my opinion. Good examples have been available in the high 40s for years. $50K has been the benchmark for the good example 348, and I think it still is.
Now THAT'S the most rational idea so far! If the mileage on this poor thrashed car is "untampered", then the fully renewed "Stooge Mobile" would bring TOP DOLLAR!!!
Thanks. I still like it a lot and it turns a lot of heads, but it is a roadblock in my journey to Ferrari ownership. There are days when I wish I didn't buy it 4 years ago.
It is not that 348 guys are trashing the car. It's that it is extremely rare that a non-DIY'ER can pay someone to refurbish a car and it make sence financially. All you guys talking about 5000 majors I can do for couple hundred cost of parts free labor and anything too expensive in parts I can make. I could easily dump 10 15k parts to make it perfect into that car as described and I would be at 40 or 45k so where is the deal? A non-diy'er would get killed on this deal. This is a fixer's car who wanted a car done his way to his standard.
Well, it looks like there will be no check written today. Here is an email that I just received from the seller. Looks like he's going to try and get more money out of the lemon..... to all who responded to ferrari for sale: i received so many emails of interest and wanting to buy 'as is' and without negotiation that i think i am going to hold off for the moment. i am going to get the tires and check engine light taken care off, along with some of the dings and scratches and then relist the car sometime in the near future. i found someone locally who is experienced with these and thinks the light is a minor adjustment issue. when the car goes back up it will be in a lot better condition and with no unknowns. ps yes i have the title psps i am architect and builder too!
Because it won't sit and rot away, SOMEONE will buy it and give it some love... My guess is he is selling it because he KNOWS it will need a 30K done and he doesn't want to do it, but he doesn't want to blow it up, either.
Funny, he didnt mention the CEL being on, in the ad! Add that to the list of why this is a BAD deal.... and when he gets the bill for the work he intends to have done, the price will go up $8-10K, and it will STILL have another $10K+ worth of issues to deal with.
Now this is a shot in the dark but... I am guessing that he might have talked to Mark. Mark is MaterMech on here. He is also the guy that bought tMobileGuy's 348 and brought it back from the dead. Ex Ferrari mechanic and 348 guru. Just a guess. I will have to call him to see. Mark, can you confirm??
