"The CinemaScope process gets a rugged workout in Henry Hathaway's The Racers. Kirk Douglas stars as an Italian bus driver who dreams of entering the Grand Prix as a world-famous race car driver. Being Kirk Douglas, he achieves his goal, racing in all the major events around the globe. Dedicated to the philosophy of "winning is the only thing", Douglas alienates his fellow racers and everyone else with whom he comes in contact. Only when he is on the verge of losing his sweetheart Bella Darvi does our hero put his priorities in order. Adapted from a novel by Hans Ruesch..."-MTV Movies.

Well worth buying/renting, IMO. Someone here will remember the 166 or 195 spider which was rebodied for this movie. It's still extant; saw it up in Monterey in the 80s.

After all this information on the dubbing of the sound it makes it hard to watch the movie again. Completely spoils it. The first time I ever watched it was in Minneapolis with some Ferrari friends who had gotten a copyright violating copy (probably of a bootleg copy anyway) made. Then at an FCA National it was being played during one of the receptions and remember the argument/discussion about what Ferrari it had to have been.

A 6.9 Merc was a great car in its day but still not the same as being a 275GTB with an F1 driver. i guess I need to see how the DVD works as a frisbee!
