Would have been priceless if you'd have had a spare key handy and could have relieved them of the car right there at the restaurant. Wonder how long it would have taken the shop to call you and break the news that your car was "missing"?
Would that be theft of your own vehicle? I once let a local dealer work on my car - they frickin left it outside with the windows down overnight. They had a barrier in front of the lot so I just went there and put the windows up with my spare key. I called and read the riot act to the dealer the next day, told him I would have taken the car if I had been able to get it out. He politely said it was a good thing I didn't, because even though it was my car, it would be considered theft while in their posession until it was lawfully returned to my posession. I can see where they're coming from... not sure how well it'd hold up
I could see that if I took it from their shop it could be theft. If I took it from a place that they had no permission to take it, and leave it in a vulnerable condition-the top being down exposing it to theft-I think it would be a little different.
I thought about that as well. I'm not sure how either scenario (yours or Ike's) would play out in court, but I'm sure that neither one would be worth the time and trouble. If I were to guess, I'd say that the shop would prevail. You could argue that your car was left in a vulnerable condition, but that would be countered by the shop's liability while the car was in their possession.
LMAO! You should call him up and read the directions out of the manual on how it says to calibrate the compass. From my experience you drive in one single circle. I remember doing this for my parents Tahoe when I was 16 or 17. You should send pieces of the game boy to him once a month.
Oh, Dean linked to it from the Joyriding Video thread. Having now looked at the date stamps, it was a bit of a 'thread resurrection' post, wasn't it? All the best, Andrew.
Ah, that makes sense. I was just curious to know how you came across it and then I noticed your Joyriding Video thread in Silver and put the pieces together. Was about to post down here, but you beat me to it.
