M6 in my opinion is faster, sounds better and looks better. But I don't know if you need the four doors of the CLS...

The M6 has a world-class engine and comes with an SMG automated MANUAL transmission whereas the CLS comes with a slushbox.

It's also a lot faster. It says, "This is a car for ME" and not, "This is car for me AND my kids...the wife wouldn't let me get a real coupe."

In my personal experience with owning both brands, BMWs, especially M models, hold their value a lot better than AMG models. You can get AMG cars (E55s, Sl55s) just a couple years old for nearly half of the original MSRP. Not so with the M6.

If you are looking to spend that kind of money, you might consider a Maserati GranTurismo. It's basically made for daily driving.

    Either way, good luck!!!!

In the looks department the GranTurismo kills both cars, but performance is a little weak...... But the GT is not all about pure performance, it is a touring vehicle that does everything right. We just got a used GT in the other day and I drove it for a few days - love the car.

ran the M6 in Bullrun '07, it was a phenomenal car for high speed highway running, and comfy enough to be a great daily driver. I'm a fan, although if you want 4 doors the CLS isn't a bad choice.

You want a daily driver. I have M5, same engine as M6...GET USED to a LOT OF FILLUPS. May not seem like a big deal , and the $$ part isn't the killer. It's having to fill this thing up 2, 2 1/2 times a week if you average it out (i have a 14mile commute each way and rarely drive on weekends). Mentally , you feel like you're always at the filling station. The one thing that the Merc 63 engine has over the M-series 10cylinder is a great blend of performance and fuel efficiency (relative term). Published stats , in my mind, don't really put into perspective how often you have to fill the V10 Bimmers up. My friend has the 63 engine in his car, gets another 50% more mpg than me in city, with the same creature comforts and similar performance #'s. That said, the M is a beast and crazy when you really want to get on it.

I need to check those out..

Yea, I've heard the same about the small tank and horrible gas mileage. A friend of mine owns an M5 and he gets 7 mpg driving around the city.

Also, how is the SMG in traffic? I live in the city and I hope the SMG won't be too much of an annoyance. I actually like the M6 better than the CLS63, but the ease of the MB for daily driving is a +.

SMG in traffic is nice because you don't have to clutch everytime to shift...painless, or you simply switch over to auto mode. Don't get me wrong, the M5/M6 performance is incredible, just be ready to get out of your car to fill up quite often. I get 10 mpg averaged out in my car .

i would go with the M6, its a much better looking car. but, if you're going to spend $85K on a daily driver, why not go with an Aston Martin!

I drove a CLS63 on Sunday, very very quick car, but for performance I would go with the M6, or luxury the Gran Turismo. The interior on the Maser is incredible!

New M6 are about $110,000-$115,000 and the CLS63s are about $100,000 loaded.

    Very close to DB9 territory.

DB9s will run you a lot more than that. :p I wouldn't daily drive a DB9 either. Too much depreciation to be lost. Then again, a loaded CLS63 will probably cost you more in depreciation, so just lease it and forget about the depreciation :p

so true, its amazing to see how fast mercedes depreciate within 3 years or so. depending on how many miles you put on your daily driver a year, i would do a comparison on the AM and Mercedes. I bet the AM would level off better than the CLS
