I love all the feedback. Thx a mil.
I'll be coming to NC in July ( want to check the humidity !)
Looking to check the Charllote and raleigh area. Here is what I'm looking for.
Very safe place, great shool (my daughter is 5), fine dinning and fine shopping with walking downtown shopping area. Being able to buy a house 1mil to 1.5 mil in a safe area with at least 2 to 3 acers but being close to shopping.
Major road racing track within 2 hours.
    Thx
    Benny

Not sure about Charlotte, but I know one of the reasons we chose this area (live in the Cary / Apex area), is the Wake County school system is consistently one of the best in NC. Also, I believe Cary was ranked one of the best places to live (nationally) in 2006. Again, not taking anything away from Charlotte, I'm just not familiar with that area. You can easily find a very nice home for that budget in Raleigh / Cary / Apex / Morrisville. VIR is 1.25 hours away.

Hey Owens84QV, I read a post from you from a while back. Are you from Tallahassee, FL? The reason I'm asking is because I recently moved to NC from there.

Apex, NC is also a very nice area (as is Cary, NC which someone else mentioned). They have wonderful schools in the Cary and Apex area.

I moved from NC roughly a year ago to Florida. I was born and raised in and around Charlotte and while many new people moving into NC have visions of a centrally located, perfect weather, great Southern people, etc, etc image, it is really not all that it iscracked up to be. Road racing is far more of an emphasis in other areas of the country. If you like NASCAR, move to NC, it is the heart and soul of racing in NC. Exotic cars and that social life is somewhat limited. If you like the beach, moving to one of the great cities like Raleigh or Charlotte will ultimately leave you an extended drive of many hours to a GOOD beach area. If you like the mountains, the same applies. If NC is your choice, Charlotte would be #1, Raleigh area #2.

If I had to move back to the Carolinas, I would choose historic Charleston ina heartbeat over anywhere else in the Carolinas. Charleston is fun, great people, good social life for the exotic car lifestyle and close to the ocean. Great restaurants, shopping, history, etc.

Granted, some people move to NC from up North and love it because the winters are not harsh and the summers are hot. Here in Florida, last Summer average temp was less than at my brothers home in Charlotte. This Summer so far, they hit 100 degrees, we havn't come close yet.

Happy for all of you who ahve moved to NC/SC and are in love with it. I hope it never wears off. I do miss the Rat on franklin St. Many good times on Franklin St. in Chapel Hill... that I can remember.

Your choice should include a visit to Orlando, Tampa or the Atlantic Coast of Central Florida before making a decision.

    Matt

By the way... my uncle is also a developer and is in NC. High Rock is possibly got a Civil War battleground issue. I know people have attempted to diffuse it but from my sources, it is much more a problem for them than many know.

hands down - south charlotte (as far down as weddington/waxhaw). great area, fantastic houses, good food, close to everything, extremely nice/clean. i lived in NC for over 22 years, and far and away the best area is right below charlotte. lake norman is very nice as well, as is charleston (SC), but for what you're looking for, somewhere south of downtown is your best bet.

I agree, south charlotte is probably your best best. Maybe around the Ballantyne or Providence Country Club or High Gate neighborhoods The whole area south of the city just keeps growing bigger and bigger along with the houses. Although Kiawah Island south of Charleston is also nice. I guess it all depends on if being close to water matters to you, if you like lakes, we have Lake Norman to the north, and Wylie to the south both of which have their good and bad points. Nascar is definitely the major racing here, but if you don't mind a drive VIR is a few hours away.
