Has anyone used Dr. Color Chip? ( www.drcolorchip.com ) I know a guy that swears by it but I'm a little leery. It sounds similar to the Langka product, only without purchasing the touch-up paint separately. There's a ton of talk about Langka on here, but I can't find anything on Dr. Color Chip.

    I use both.

Color Chip is good if you have "rash" on the front of the car. With today's crappy, enviro paint the tiniest bit of sand, dust, microscopic particles seem to pit the paint. This stuff is VERY good for getting rid of that speckled look. BUT, I don't think it is worth a squat for actual chips or big nicks in the paint. Here is why: 1) building up the chip takes waaaaay too long, 2) no gloss to it. No matter what I did (including calling the company and asking for advice, seemed to work. BTW, this is the five foot solution. Close up you will see the small indentations. But again, WAAAAY cheaper than a repaint.

Langka is great for chips or bigger scratches. If the gloss isn't enough, you can use some clear as the final stage to bring some shine to it. Warning though, SOME finishes on SOME cars will end up with a blob shadow if you leave it on too long. My old E36 M Coupe had this problem (Langka sent some scratch remover for me to get rid of it) BUT my same vintage E39 525 did not have this problem.

With both methods metallics may not look as good as new because of the flake sizes and/or settling of the flakes as the paint dries.

Thanks BwanaJoe! That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I'm looking to repair chips on an Rosso Corsa '86 Mondial 3.2. I'm hoping with the paint pen from the dealer combined with Langka I'll get pretty good results. I'll keep Dr. Color Chip in mind in the future in case I get some front end pitting over the years. Thanks again!

BTW, the paint pens are a real PIA to use to fully fill in the chips. Keep the tip press NEXT to the chip to get a good flow of paint then "push" the paint into the chip. Remember, it may take a couple time of this to fully "fill" in a deep chip. I had one in the front of the 308 when I bought here that was down to primer. I think I am up to about 12 attempts to fill it in. One last little dip and I should be done.

    Good luck,

    Joe
