My car had the droopy foam when I got it. The outer sections were just rotted out, and the center section never had the backing paper removed so it was friction fit form the factory. It is incorrect, but I got some of the insulating foam from JC Whitney, for around $40 or so. Also order some high temp contact adhesive and spray both the foam and the deck to get it to stick.

I actually just scrapped the whole thing off. Looks great and costs nothing. My first attempt at glueing it back with 3M glue failed miserably since a very thin layer stayed glued but the rest of the foam separated again and dragged.

My mechanic (competizione) said there should be no downside to not having any foam other than a bit more noise. That's upside if you ask me! :D

If u look u will see that there is plenty of room for a cross spar made of whatever will work for you. I am comtemplating a metal piece about 36" wide spanning the underside, spray it motor black and u r good to go. I tired the adhesive and it just doesn't last.

Interesting! When my insulation started dropping I bought a couple of thin(1mm) CFC sheets. Cut and slip in place. Looks good and retains the original insulation for what that is worth!

Mine was out when I bought my 348. It looks nice with it out. I would not put it back in even though I like my 348 very close to original.

Is the insulation necessary? My car didn't have it when I bought it, guess it dropped off sometime ago while in the hands of a previous owner. So I'm wondering if I need it?

I discarded the droopy remains of my 348's original foam insulation five years ago, and replaced it with household materials from Lowes. It still looks like the day I installed it. No drooping, no discoloring, no loose edges. My total investment was less than $15.

Looks great! Lasts longer! Costs less and weighs less.

    Life is good.
