I get 70-75mpg in my Insight, of course it is slower than anything else on the road:(

I'm afraid someone will steal it if gas gets any more expensive!

    ps. I don't have a beard.

Looks like a random recall for early model year cars. The side impact airbag system is now standard on the Prius. No car is 100% safe but a 4-5 star rating is great for such a small vehicle.

I've had a Prius since 2004 and have 60,000 miles. I've averaged 49 mpg for that time. Observations:

    1. To get the best mileage, you MUST change the way you drive: use the regen brakes more, coast to stop lights, lots of cruise control, don't drive it like my Ferrari. It's fun to see what you can do...

    2. Your perspective gets distorted. I get pissed off when I get less than 46 on any particular tank, even if the Houston weather was 95 and the AC ran all the time.

    3. I get 3-4 mpg lower in Jun -Aug (ac) than Feb - Mar (no ac).

    4. Goodyear Comfortread tires cost me about 2 mpg (see #1 on distorted perspective...)

    5. When you first start the car, the gas engine runs for about 10 minutes to bring the fluids up to optimum temps. This means that if all you ever do is drive 5 miles to Starbucks, then your mileage will be low 30s at best.

    6. On Texas flat roads, on cruise control, over extended distances, I get 70 mpg @ 40 mph, 60 @ 50, and 45 @ 70.

P.S. no beard, business casual, Old Spice.

PPS. I se all kinds of cars driving in the left lane...there is no exclusivity there!

ok, two in the no beard category, which of course is the ONLY stat that matters with Hybrid cars! ;)

However, by my interpretation of your text, I now have a new hypothesis:

Hybrid + facial hair= Save the planet (sorry Impacto)
Hybrid + clean shaven= Save wallet such that I can also enjoy my Ferrari some

Seems like sound logic to me.

I guess I'll have to shave the Goatee to offset my reduced carbon emissions. It's a small concession to assure political incorrectness. :D

My problem with those econo tires, wouldn't you actually want tires that offer a lot of grip and will actually help you avoid an accident?
