Yeah, Phil looking up, and Luigi Chinetti in the tan suit. Instead of hollering "Phil" I should have yelled, "Hey, Phil and Luigi".

 

The Ferrari 512S was no doubt a classic race car. Attached are three photos of 512s taken at the 1971 24 Hours of Daytona. The yellow #28 car was driven by Arturo Merzario and Jose Juncadella but the car failed to finish. The NART #23 512S was driven by Ronnie Bucknum and Tony Adamowicz and finished second behind the Porsche 917K of Pedro Rodriguez and Jackie Oliver. Note the missing body work in the photo of the #23 car. One can only imagine how difficult it was for Ronnie Bucknum to drive that car with the aerodynamics gone.

Rust is cheaper than primer.

 

Like fine wine aging in the cask? Perhaps, like cholesterol, there's good rust and bad rust...

 

Was the factory on strike?

I know with Alfa Suds there was a strike in the painting area, and they just kept of making shells and stacking them outside the factory in all weather ... eventually getting around to painting them (which was poorly done at best).

Italians just do not understand quality control, interferes with the passion

I have a vintage question and you guys seem to know your stuff. 1950's era 860 Monza. How many were built and what is one worth now?

 

1956 860 Monza
2 built - chassis numbers 0602M and 0604M
worth several million dollars

 

Woa. Thats alot of clams. What about the 1956 250 TR? Anyone know about the one that won sebring in 58? Phil Hil drove it right?

My brother was in sebring and saw some photos and was asking me about the different ferrari's that won back then.

 

For the last post I might suggest you pick up any copy of Cavallino and examine the Market Guide where you will find everything from 1947 to 2008 priced as accurately as can be expected.

It has taken me over a month to get through this thread, but what a ride its been. I would like to thank David for starting it and posting some amazing period photos as well as everyone else. The knowledge available and given freely here concerning races, serial numbers, history and ownership reads more like a book of Ferrari history. Sometimes even correcting data we have had in our book collections for years.

I found these small prints in a transporter file I have for a model project. I think they are late 60s early 70s France. (yellow headlights, Peugeot) Which begs the question, what happen to this transporter? and were there more than one. I also noticed one of the 50s Bartoletti transporters for sale in Europe and wondered how many of those survive. I know I photographed one in Beverly Hills and Pebble Beach a few years back and that Shaughnessy had a FIAT, but it isn't as elaborate. (see attached from 2004)

the car was at Sinsheim Museum but has been offered for sale at the 2008 Techno Classica at Essen / Germany.

 

jon Shirley has the sister of the Sinsheim transporter

 

I remember these photos from Best of France & Italy 2007 (or 2006?). Just loved the 410 SA in "driver" condition. there was a young gent, mebbe 8 years old, crawling thriugh the car. I gingerly enquired if doing so was okay with the owner. When he told me that his dad owned the car, I asked him if he'd like a grown brother!

Just a great car. Hope that it stays in that condition!

 

[Slight digression] I don't know about you, but any seller that claims his car has "never been in the rain" instantly loses creditability with me. Are Ferraris made out of sugar and spice?[/Slight digression off]
