Or a 8oxer! My old ex 328 and the 355 are invisible compared to the BB, can't get fuel without a small crowd then the obligatory pop up to show the motor causes even more of a stir Don't mind the attention but wouldn't want it every day sometimes you just want to drive in peace with no stalkers
I definitely like the WOW factor. I let my brother borrow my car today to bring his son to / from school. I just saw him leaving the office, and I thought "Wow, what a great looking car." It is good. BT
I had a woman flash me because of the testarossa and I asked if I could feel them, she said yes, so I did, but before she knew it I took a nipple in my mouth and played with it for about 10 seconds.
I'm guessing that you probably don't look like me Balding 46 YO men on MY particular beach road don't get a lot of looks... just the car here my friend, just the CAR. Jedi
I bought my CS because it makes ME go WOW! every time I see it and sit in it. In the first year of Ferrari ownership, the stares and picture taking made me uncomfortable since people always look at the car first, then look at the driver. Anyone who doesn't look like James Bond may feel self conscious. But now I'm used to the attention and don't notice it as much.
When (yes, when, not if... I hope) I get my own F430 it'll be entirely because they're mind blowing to me. If someone thinks I'm posing in one, so be it. Just because I'm driving past buildings with lots of windows to look at the car wouldn't make me a poser would it? But really, I'd buy an F430 simply because it's my dream car and I love it more than any other for a reason I don't know, not to say "hey look at me." I don't mind posers either. It's the cars I'm interested in, not how someone else uses them.
Its all about POSING for every one of us. None of us designed or built the car (except omgjon, what a sicko) so we are all just driving around someone else's pride. Which means we are posing or 'acting' as if we had something to do with the genius of the car. We show it off to all that will look, period. Get a grip everyone, You are ALL posers and care about what others think. Time to be honest with yourselves again. Here's proof, go outside right now and give your car 10 good kicks in the doors and fenders, punch the hood as hard as you can, smash a headlight and run a key deep into the paint all the way around it. Then get in, start it up and take a nice Saturday drive (along that beach would be nice). Do you feel as excited about it's performance as you did yesterday? Are you driving slow so as people can get a good look? Are you smiling? Are you proud? When people look, are you sitting up tall smiling back at them or are the (tinted)windows up and you're hiding behind a hat and sunglasses? My guess is, you wouldn't take it out of the garage until you got it all fixed because you wouldn't want people seeing it like that. You would have a sick feeling in your stomach and wouldn't give a **** about how smooth it drove or how fast it was. And by the way, I have driven down my street (beach road) and cruised in the F430's..... not exactly the best road to 'open' it up and enjoy it's performance... so why do I do it? POSER obviously.
I would feel that way if the car wasn't running or performing well either, say the CEL was on or something. That's not something people could see, but I think the idea is that you feel good when the car is in good condition.
I guess we just have different definitions of 'posing'. Posing to ME is being an obnoxious over-the-top dork trying to impress the girls (on the Beach road!) - cruising 'the loop' over and over, doing burnouts just cuz you can, parking in a conspicuous place and sitting in a chair next to your car sunning yourself; driving through the mall parking lot on a Saturday over and over. The way I grew up (driving years) there's NOTHING wrong with being proud of your car and liking to be seen driving it. But RUBBING IT IN TO EVERYONE YOU PASS, as in my examples - THAT is posing. Of course I'm proud of how my car LOOKS. But I don't abuse the fact that I can afford to own an exotic car. I don't 'show off'. My 'wow factor' is that I actually own a Ferrari and a Mercedes E500, both of which I paid cash for and can afford to maintain. Wow - for me, that's a LONG way from where I was 20 years ago. Jedi
Like others, you buy the car for the "wow" factor. Even with my old 328 I get thumbs up on the road, people asking me about the car, and in general, a positive iew wherever I drive it. The best is when some young kid (by this I mean an adolescent) comes up to talk to me about the car. I always try to be gracious and inviting and encourage them to sit in it. Communicating the message is one of the real pleasures about owning a Ferrari. There are others here who have far more exotic cars than I and I bet they own them in great part for the "feel good" factor. I remember a couple of years ago I had the fortune of meeting Jim Glickenhaus, a member here, who had the foresight to construct the P4/5. When I saw at a show earlier this year, he looked genuinely pleased at the reactions to those who were admiring the works of art and history he brought to the show. It's kind of like paying it forward I guess.
